Health
Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Jeffrey was an owner surrender in March 2019. We were given a birth date of Aug. 2015 but are not sure how accurate this is. He was diagnosed at that time with a heart murmur and dental disease. An echo performed in April 2019 diagnosed him with Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Please see the attached description of the disease. There was no medication or exercise restriction recommended, and anesthesia was not contraindicated. A recheck echo was performed in March 2020, and the HCM was determined to be well tolerated with no major changes. Hypertension was noted (high blood pressure), and a medication, Amlodipine, was dispensed at ¼ tablet once daily. This medication can be provided at cost for $10 per 90 tablets. A recheck echo to follow progression of the disease is recommended for March 2021, which would be performed at the Simpson Clinic at no charge. The next annual echo can be performed at the Simpson Clinic at a cost of $275. Because of the periodontal disease, Jeffrey needed many extractions. At-home dental care is recommended in the form of brushing teeth and dental treats; however, most cats do not appreciate this so future dental cleanings or extractions may be necessary. In April 2019 he was noted to have an ear infection which was treated and resolved. In June 2019, it was noted Jeffrey had an increase in his thirst and urination habits so lab work was submitted and revealed elevated kidney values, anemia and proteinuria. A kidney diet and subcutaneous fluids twice weekly were started. One month later lab work revealed improvement, a urine sample revealed a urinary tract infection so treatment was continued and antibiotics were added. Upon recheck urinary infection was still present so antibiotics were continued. In November a urine sample revealed the infection had resolved. At this point I would classify him as stage II kidney disease; however, an ultrasound has not been performed. He seems to be compensating well with the food and fluid treatment, but due to the progressive nature of kidney disease it will most likely limit his life span. Jeffrey is currently eating a K/D kidney diet from Science Diet and getting subcutaneous fluids twice weekly which we can teach you how to give. He is getting an oral medication, Amlodipine, once daily. He is due for lab work and a blood pressure recheck in September 2020, an echo in March 2021, and vaccines March 2023. I recommend a yearly echo and twice yearly lab work/blood pressure checks.

Petfinder recommends that you should always take reasonable security steps before making online payments.
