Meet Hughey

Hughey showed up at a managed feral cat colony last summer and kept to himself. We suspected he was a pet dropoff and we tried to trap him, but he was too trap shy. One day, he showed up limping very badly. We feared he had been hit by a car. We were able to trap him and took him to a vet, where he was examined and X-rayed. The vet explained that his injury was an old break that did not heal properly, and he had probably aggravated it somehow. Surgery was not a suggested option as it would be too traumatic given the age of the injury, which the vet believed was caused by a baseball bat, golf club, or similar object — in other words, Hughey had been beaten or severely kicked by someone in the past. The vet also estimated he was between 5 to 6 years old.

Because of his permanent injury, Hughey needs a safe home where he can't be too active. He was confined at his foster's house while he healed from his new strain, and he was very fearful and hissy at first. Over time, he became friendly, giving head boops and allowing his caregiver to pet, hold, and cuddle him. Now, he is a social butterfly who loves being around other cats and people, and he always wants to be in your lap and loves being petted. Sudden movements still scare him, but it's obvious he can be an indoor pet in a quiet home with someone willing to give him time and love to adjust.

Hughey has been neutered and vaccinated and combo tested negative. Because of his circumstances we might consider waiving the adoption fee for the right applicant.
