Meet Helen Keller

Helen Keller may have special needs, but she doesn’t let it hold her back. This sweetheart is a gem!

Helen came into rescue with vision problems and an unsteady gait. After testing, it was determined that she is blind, and also seems to have neurological issues that give her a little “swagger” in her walk. The vet believes her issues likely are the result of being hit by a car or some other traumatic event. But she is medically stable and ready for a home that doesn’t mind working around her special needs.

Helen does best starting out in one room so she can learn where her litter box and food/water are, then she can gradually branch out to a larger area. It can be a bit overwhelming for her when she encounters new things, so she needs supervision at the beginning while she is getting her bearings. She would probably do best in a home with at least one adult who is often home. Maybe a work from home situation or stay at home mom with older kids for example?

One of Helen’s most endearing traits is that she plays with invisible toys. She often gets frisky and starts pouncing and batting around a toy no one can see but her. She also is very sweet and cuddly. You might even find her sprawled out on her back during an afternoon snooze sometimes.

Helen does well with the foster’s dogs who are calm and give her space. She also does well with older kids. She would probably be scared around too much excitement or noise, like with small children or more rambunctious dogs. The smell of another cat seems to be scary for her since she can’t see. So a home without another cat would probably be best.

We offer a 30 day refund guarantee in case it doesn’t end up being a good fit. The adoption fee for Helen is $150, and includes spay, microchip, vaccines, deworming, and flea treatment up to date. Apply at feistyfelines.org.
