Meet Esther

Just the facts: Domestic Long Hair; Spayed Female; Approximate Age 12-14; Vaccinated

Here's what her foster family has to say about her:

How would you describe the cat's general personality?
Esther
is lowkey, and mostly likes to be curled up in a cat bed or comfy pillow. She doesn't seem to be bothered by someone coming into the room, but if you get too close (like reach your hand within a foot of her) she will swat and/or hiss.

Does the cat enjoy being pet?

Currently no. It is possible with more time she would get comfortable enough to allow petting.
Esther
has arthritis so her body might also be sensitive. When I am in the room with her
Esther
will stay in her cat bed, sometimes watching me, sometimes sleeping. I have not seen
Esther
show interest in toys.
Esther
is very quiet and never meows. She purrs when I am in the room, though I am not sure if it is because she is stressed.
Esther
is good with the litterbox! She does tend to track litter around. She eats both wet and dry food and doesn't seem too picky. She loves Churu treats (squeezed out onto a plate), pill pockets, and temptations treats.

Does the cat ever swat at you? If so, under what circumstances?

Yes, if you get very close to her/try to pet her.

Does the cat ever nip at you?

No.

Has the cat ever scratched you?

Yes, when trying to pet her.

Has the cat ever bitten you?

No.

Esther
would do best in a quiet house. She seems most comfortable in her own quiet space. When left alone, she eats well, uses the litter box, walks around the room, etc. When she was in a noisier environment with more people/action around, she was too stressed to eat.

Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren't covered by the previous questions?

She likes to nuzzle her head into her cat bed and put her paw over her eyes.

Esther
is a special cat who really just needs an understanding person to give her a place to live peacefully. We don't know
Esther
's full history, but it seems for now that she does not desire much human interaction. We think she would be okay with another cat around as long as the cat wasn't aggressive or dominant.

Esther
has arthritis and takes Dasuquin Advanced sprinkled in her wet food to help her joints, and sometimes a low dose of gabapentin sprinkled in her food and/or in pill pockets to help her with both pain and anxiety.
