Elsa was rescued from the cold in Waverly, Iowa in December 2017 by some kind people. However their young child was not trained to give kind touches, so we took her in and she became a WPR kitty. Elsa is mostly white with a black tail, one black spot on her body and black on her head that makes us think she’s wearing a wig. In fact her wig looks like she has bangs and on one side she tried unsuccessfully trim them, lol. Elsa is now up to date on shots and tested negative for FeLV / FIV. She is also spayed.

Elsa is about 4 years old now as of March 2021 and it’s been obvious to her foster family that Elsa has been treated unkindly in her short life before we got her and requires a gentle, patient and loving family to give her a forever home.

She does a strange squinting of her eyes when there is movement above her head and when something is sprayed from a spray bottle. She occasionally has a sort of a panic attack if she feels “trapped”. Like one time she was on a lap of one of her foster care givers who was sitting criss-cross and she fell into the middle hole and couldn’t move. We could see the panic in her eyes until legs were moved and she was free. She also needed a bit of reassurance that we were not going to hurt her. This fear of being trapped also makes her nervous being held. For this reason, she needs a home with older children. She can handle being held for a short time when she feels safe. However she’s a cat you have to be slow and patient with at times, like when she needs her claws trimmed.

Making her feel safe is the key to unlocking the sweetness of Elsa. Once she is in a secure environment, she is a playful, explorative kitty. She is extremely loving and always is looking to give love and get love. She is quite the talker and definitely a lap kitty. Elsa has always been fine around her other foster kitties, but has not been exposed to dogs.

3/10/20 UPDATE: Elsa is really a wonderfully sweet kitty. She’s talkative, loves to play and her favorite toys are wands or a shoe string. She has had some trauma in her past, so things coming around her head worry her. Until she totally trusts you she might shy away from being petted on her head, but she loves attention and really wants to be loved on. She is often found laying next to or on top of someone. She has spent a lot of time around her teenage care givers and totally trusts and loves them. She startles easily, but doesn’t hide for too long. So small children would be too much for her. She has been exposed to many cats during her WPR time and seems to enjoy a buddy after proper introductions. At times she is awkward on how to interact with other cats. For instance she may try to play and if the cat is too aggressive in play she’ll get scared, hiss and runaway to hide. She will also get overwhelmed if there are too many cats around her. She does best with a laid back cat buddy who isn’t aggressive and doesn’t get in her face too much. She has been around girl and boy buddies and seems to enjoy boys more as long as they are laid back. She’s such a great kitty and just needs a forever family that is patient and will make her feel safe and loved.

8/19/21 UPDATE: Elsa is a wonderful and sweet kitty. She loves to talk to you, get love, play, and especially cuddle. She’s had trauma in her past, so things around her head worry her. She’ll often cuddle up on people whether they are sitting on the chair or floor or even if they are laying down somewhere. She loves to purr and knead and if she’s comfortable enough she will roll over and let you pet her belly. She likes to play with wands, shoe strings, and especially circle-ball toys, but she will play with pretty much any toy as long as someone is playing with her. She loves to scratch on scratching posts and she is very fond of being brushed with a comb, which also helps with shedding. She can get startled easily, but she won’t hide for too long as long as long as she feels safe. Therefore, small children would be too much for her. WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
