Meet Dixie

Dixie is a 1-2 year old laid-back, easy-going lady. She is incredibly loving, always looking for a lap to lie on or an extra hand to pet her. She is a sweetheart who is also good at giving space when you need it. Her favorite activities are lounging by loved ones, looking out the window, and eating good food. Dixie is a wonderful, gentle companion once you give her a few minutes of your time. With her big eyes, round belly, and unique markings, she is hard to resist! This special girl would do best in a calmer home, where she can really shine like the star she is!

Dixie tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). This disease is caused by a retrovirus that is only contagious to other cats. Infection is lifelong and there is no cure. While the virus is dormant, cats with this infection are healthy and require no special management. However, if the virus reactivates later in life the cat may have a reduced immune system function, which may cause the cat to be more susceptible to other infectious diseases or cancers. FIV is typically transmitted through deep bite wounds. If you have other cats in your home it is important to supervise interactions with your cats to prevent fighting. Casual contact such as playing, grooming, or sharing dishes and litter boxes does not contribute to viral spread.
We recommend adopters consult their veterinarian to determine the optimal strategies for keeping this and any other cats in the home as healthy as possible in the long run.
