Cowboy was originally rescued as a kitten in Waterloo, Iowa by Waverly Pet Rescue back in August 2013. We fully vetted him and he was adopted in November 2013. His owner can no longer keep him because their son has breathing issues and cats bother him. We took Cowboy back in August 2020. Cowboy is up to date on shots, tested FeLV / FIV negative, and neutered.

Cowboy is now about 10-3/4 years old as of January 2024. Losing his home was really hard on him. He was very upset. He hid for almost 2 months and hissed at me for almost 2 months. Then one day when I went in his room to feed him, he decided I was ok and stopped hissing. He now seeks me out for attention and to be petted. He is quite sweet but does still hiss when he is unsure or scared. So far he is not a fan of being picked up or held so a home with no young children would be best. He has not been around dogs. He lived with other cats so it seems like he would do well with other cats if introduced properly and given time to settle in.

Cowboy will need to be set up in one room alone in a new home. Make sure he eats, drinks, and uses his litter box every day but basically let him be while he adjusts to you and your home. Once he bonds with you and is friendly, then you can let him out in the rest of the house. He will also hide at first, this is normal. Cowboy is still processing the trauma he experienced losing his home so needs a patient and kind cat person that is very understanding.

Cowboy's adoption fee is $95.00.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $250 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
