Meet Cocoa

Name: Cocoa

Age: Over 12 years

Breed: Tabby

Reason for being at shelter:

Description: Update: Cocoa is doing well at adjusting and transitioning to the shelter environment. She is much friendlier now and she’s less smacky with her paws, too. She’s getting more comfortable and is more amendable to being petted. She does like to play, too. Cocoa would do great in an adult home.

Cocoa doesn’t understand why she’s at the shelter and is a little grumpy about it. She can be a little unpredictable but really, she’s just misunderstood. If she could speak human, we’re guessing this might be something along the line of what she might be saying. “The staff comes in to perform their cleaning duties and all the movement makes be nervous and I tend to lash out at them. And I don’t know who all the strangers are that come by and want to visit with me so I may be mean to them but only because I don’t trust them. But if someone will spend a little time to talk to me and whisper my name, it calms my fears. And if they approach me slowly and gently, I will give a much more welcoming response. If you offer me treats and laser play, then I really start to like you. The icing on the cake is if you’ll deliver catnip so I can roll around it in and let me get into my zen mode for a while. A soft, gentle rub around the face and cheeks puts me in a relaxing trance. I don’t think that’s so hard to understand, is it? I just want someone to be friendly toward me and to help me relax and adjust to my new surroundings. I really am a gentle and loving kitty but I’m just a little scared to show it easily.” So far, that sums up the encounters with Cocoa. She presents a mean scowl with her eyes but that’s just her natural appearance. She appreciates human friendship but is timid to ask for it and scared to trust right away.
