October update: Charlie is doing so well. He is just the cutest most
playful little (big) guy. Wish I had a YouTube of him with a paper
bag for you. He backs up quite far and then runs and crashes inside
it with just his tail showing. It is really wonderful to watch. He
is ready for his new home.

He is still a cat that is not appropriate for children but he is friendly with adults . We are picking him up and carrying him around and loving him up in ways that we couldn't before while he was recovering from some trauma in his life. He arrived very stressed but he's back!! And what a great cutie he is.

March update: Charlie is doing great. He has unfolded himself from whatever his past was and now is very interactive with us. He calls us to his door and asks for breakfast. He has decided begging for treats is a valuable and honorable cat profession. He has discovered the large loft in his room and loves to go up there and watch us all down below. He loves his cardboard scratcher and sits on it all the time. He is tolerant of the cats around him including the two house cats that come up to his door. He slips out of his room sometimes and we have to go catch him and pick him up. He has mellowed and is showing what a nice guy he is. I wish we could know what happened to him to cause him to be the uptight guy he was when he came in. I am guessing it was something like a bad cat fight broken up by angry, aggressive humans. Something traumatic that left him upset with cats and not all that comfortable with humans.

I am glad he is happier and more himself. Big beautiful guy. Our original bio about him said: The shelter sent an email to Purebreds which started out saying, "This gorgeous, handsome man was abandoned at the front door of our shelter." He must have been abandoned in a big carrier because he is a BIG cat, 18 pounds. And he was one seriously annoyed cat. He mellowed a bit at the shelter but not a whole lot. Of course, a temper tantrum in a shelter is a death sentence. We knew that so when they wrote us about him we said, "Yes, we would take him" right away. Well, what a great big beautiful boy we got.

"Wow!!!" was our first response. That's a cat!!!. Healthy. Tall. Majestic like a range of mountains. Blazing white. Quite a character. We could pet him right from the start. We were careful, he was new and had limits to his good nature. But he liked his room. Liked the cardboard scratcher. Ate well. Loved his cozy bed. Now a couple weeks later he will play with a feather, come up to his door to see when breakfast is coming, watch birds out the window. He is happier. We don't push him. We are letting him unfold himself from whatever bad experiences happened to him in the shelter and before. Who knows what happened before. He is a wonderful gorgeous kitty and is ready to go to his home. He would do best with no annoying children or grandchildren or other pets.

He needs a cat savvy couple or a single owner who will enjoy watching him settle into his Persian cuddliness and Coon goofy good nature. It is a fascinating process watching a cat settle in and grow into relationship with you. It creates a special bond. Love and patience and time will do it. The shelter shaved him in a little lion cut so he has no grooming needs for 6 months. His fur is soft and silky and lush. You can see that from his magnificent plume of a tail. He has a wonderful pink nose and lemon yellow eyes. All the rest is pure white. We had a previous amazing cat "Horatio Jones," also part Maine Coon and part Persian. Everyone adored him. It is a wonderful combination, all the cuddliness and soft fur of a Persian and the quirky intelligence and size of the Maine Coon. Charlie is very similar to Horatio in size shape and face. Gorgeous.

So here is Charlie, a one of a kind special beauty. Someone will be lucky to have his company in their home. He eats wet and dry and is litterbox perfect.

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue (purebredsplus.org), serving Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Northern Nevada, is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of purebred cats, kittens and other exceptional felines. We are a 501 (c)3 non-profit rescue group. Most of our beautiful felines come from Northern California Animal Shelters. One of our goals is to keep purebred cats from ever ending up in a shelter. We are happy to help you if you need to rehome your purebred cat. Often, we can offer advice if your cat is having behavioral problems, and you may end up keeping the cat. We do NOT ship cats. We will place cats out of area but you must arrange to come and meet your new friend in person.
