Chai (bonded with Latte)'s Story

Chai & Latte are bonded siblings looking for their second chance at a loving home. Their current foster family have made tremendous progress in supporting and habituating the cats to a home life where they can fully be the wonderful cats they are, once stressors are identified and triggers removed. They need a quiet space, and patient, supportive guardians who will love and accept these beautiful kitties for who they are – scared and slow to build trust, but willing and eager to connect – and continue to build on the positive progress that their foster family has made to help them blossom into loving and silly kitties they are becoming.

Chai is a beautiful orange cat who was found in a barn with his sister, very under socialized to humans and highly anxious. With patient and consistent attention at his foster home, Chai has shown his great potential to be a goofy and loving cat! When he came into the foster home, Chai would not allow pets, and was clearly wary of hands reaching for him. Since then, after a few months of establishing trust at his foster home, positive progress has been made. Chai will allow some touching by people he knows and trusts, in fact, he will initiate this by rubbing up against your feet! This is a sign that it is safe to slowly bend down and give a short pet. He will let you know if he wants you to back off, or if he is open to more.

Another way to acclimate Chai to pets is by distracting him either with treats or toys. If he is being fed a treat, or playing with a moving toy, he can be approached from the side or from the back (out of eyesight) and pet on his lower back above the tail for a short time. When Chai is feeling safe and brave, he will rub against the back of your legs and weave himself through your feet! His foster family is also slowly introducing picking Chai up for short periods of time.

Chai has been very brave and once he settled in at his foster home, he has proved to be a sweet and funny cat. He loves to play with a wand toy, laser toy, and chase his sister Latte all around. He also loves catnip! Playing with Chai or offering him a Churu treat is a great way to bond with him.

Chai and his sister Latte have litter box and dietary requirements that are not onerous once established : they need multiple litter boxes (at least 2, ideally 3) throughout their living space and cleaned frequently throughout the day. They are currently using Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract Litter to ensure positive habits. They need established routines to ensure positive litter box use and patience during their transition process.

They are on a special prescription diet to prevent urinary issues. Both Chai and Latte have been loving wet food, which is essential for urinary and overall health. It’s best to feed them with a bit of distance apart to make sure both eat the portions given. They are currently fed using slow feeding lick mats, to encourage Latte not to eat too quickly. Both love the Churu brand of creamy tube treats.

With attention, patience, love, and kindness, Chai and his sister Latte will blossom and bring so much love to your home!

Would you like to make Chai and Latte a part of your family? Please complete our online application found at: https://www.avacats.org/adoption-application-form.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $250 for each adult cat 1 year or older. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.
