Meet Caprice

Feb 5, 2014 - Caprice has been adopted. She is going to a home with other cats and with children who are used to animals and is gentle with them. The home visitor says it is a wonderful home and she feels that Caprice will be well taken care of.

This is her story:-) Caprice is a gorgeous and very friendly young grey with white tabby. Her estimated date of birth is December 2012. She was found shivering and meowing pitifully, sitting in a human footprint in deep snow near the Ottawa River. She could not move, otherwise she would sink in the snow. The footprints told the whole story. They ended with the footprint she was in, turned around and went back. There was nothing but a field of deep snow around her and a river in front of her. Cross Country skiers noticed her, came back an hour and a half later and she had not moved.

They went up to check on her and she clung to them. She was very thin, and obviously suffering. They took her home, fed her and gave her water. She drank about three bowls of water and ate ravenously, then fell into a deep sleep.

The people could not keep her, four local shelters were not taking in, all the rescues were full as they scrambled to respond to the deluge of calls. Shelters warned people that all they could do was euthanize if cats were dropped off. Her rescuers could only keep her a few days and then would have to bring her to a shelter. A sanctuary took her and put her in a cage until Cat Rescue Network could find a foster home for her. Caprice was very protective of her food, a sign that she has been starved. Her tummy was also swollen with worms. Imagine how this tiny creature must have suffered as a direct result of a mean, heartless human. This is what her foster mum has to say about her:-)

"Everyday she seems to get a little bit more active but seems to be like my boy in that she sleeps all day! She is awake and ready to be fed in the morning and alert and ready to be fed when I get home from work. Last night I sprayed this toy with a VERY special catnip oil I get from Vancouver Island and she loved it!

When I give my cats treats I usually hide several around the living room for them to find during the day so I did it with Caprice this morning. Not only did she figure out what I had done very quickly she found most of them within half an hour so she seems quite intelligent. :)

She is eating lots but doesn't seem to drink a lot so I've added another water dish in a second location and I add water to her wet food. She is peeing so I'm not worried but will keep an eye on it. She seems happy and healthy so far."

Caprice is now doing well in her new foster home but now needs a FOREVER home and a loving family to care for her.
