Meet Buttercup

Buttercup is a purebred Persian. She has spent the last 6 years in a breeding program. We at NALA do NOT promote or encourage breeding. This situation is what is called “Breeder Release”.

By keeping an open mind and heart, (and a LOT of tongue biting) We are able to positively communicate with breeding compounds.

We encourage the breeding facilities to surrender Mom’s and Dad’s to licensed rescues, once they realize the animal is no longer a viable source of “product/income”.

It is a very tough pill to swallow from a rescue standpoint. There are more animals in this world than the world will ever know what to do with. However, getting mad and throwing a fit will not help the animals. We must keep a level head.

NALA Volunteers open their homes to hundreds of thousands of animals every single year- from every scenario you could possibly imagine.

Hoarding, Local Humane Society Euthanasia List, Neglect, Cattery/Puppy Mill Release, Single Owner Surrender, Behavioral cases, and SO many medical cases it would make your head spin!!

Before we take an animal into our rescue, we do our BEST to keep that animal in the home they are currently living in, assuming the home WANTS to keep them. Believe us, we do not want to take your pet away from you. If you love your pet, we will do our best to help you keep your pet!!!

We offer advice on training/behavior concerns (as long as we have a licensed volunteer available). We provide quality food if someone finds themselves struggling to feed their pet (as long as we have enough food to share). And we also work with local veterinarians to address medical concerns (as long as we have the finances to cover office visits/medications).

Every single person that is associated with NALA is a volunteer. We do not have a facility, we have families that are willing to put a dog crate in their spare bedroom, so they can have a place for a dog to sleep at night. That dog is now alive and will be given the opportunity to live and love when the volunteer humans are home.

We do not have a building, we have people with a half bath in their basement, so a cat can have a safe space to relax and decompress. This cat has now been given the opportunity to have her babies in peace, or possibly a cat that can heal from fighting for their life over 3 kernels of food.

NALA does NOT have a paid staff, unlike other local rescues.

NALA does NOT have a Board of Directors with a Six Figure Salary, unlike other local humane societies/shelters.

NALA is 100% volunteer driven. We do our best to address emails on our lunch breaks, and respond to voicemails on our way home from work.

NALA is optimistic for the day that our help is no longer needed……. Until that day comes around- ask questions! Learn the difference between a shelter and a rescue. Inquire about the financial compensation for individuals on the payroll. Ask for a copy of Shelter Statistics, and throw in a side of “what is intake protocol”?

Now, back to Miss Buttercup…. The fluffiest girl around!! Persian cats require grooming assistance from humans every. single. day.

Persian cats are a high maintenance Feline. They are prone to skin fold and eye infections. (That adorable smush face is a bacteria playground). Daily brushing, bottom shaving, wrinkle wiping, and hours upon hours of snoring and sleeping and sneezing are in your future if Buttercup appeals to you!
