Buddy was a stray in Waverly, Iowa, kind people fed for 3-years. He started looking very rough so decided to get him some help. So he is now a WPR kitty. Buddy is now neutered, and now up to date on shots. He tested negative for Feline Leukemia. But he did test positive for FIV.

Buddy is about 5-years-old as of December 2016. Oh, poor guy. He has half an ear missing and the other appears to have been frostbit. Assuming the missing one is from a cat fight. He has scars that look like are also from cat fights. Not an easy life being a stray. He is a total sweetheart. He is one that is going to start off shy and scared in your home. You need to put him in one room until he gets to know you, the whole house will be too overwhelming for him. Let him hide, wait until he comes to you. What we do is start him in my 9 year old daughters room. She lays in her bed and reads. When he is brave enough, he comes out to see what she is doing and she will pet him. Each day that gets a little better. Buddy just needs time to trust you. When he does, he likes to roll to his side and have his face and chin stroked. His favorite place is his cat bed. He is like "OMG, all for me? And it is so soft!" Buddy loves to eat, has to be his favorite time of the day. He did have many bad and broken teeth removed by a vet, so soft food is best and just a little dry mixed in it. Would love for someone to give this sweet boy a chance. He deserves an inside home and love for the rest of his life. We have not tried him around other cats yet, but we will. The ones we have he has seen and did not hiss at them. But will see how he does around them at a later time and update this when we do.

8/11/17 UPDATE: Buddy is a total sweetheart. He is now much braver than he used to be. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he likes to explore and check things out. His favorite thing though is a soft comfy bed. He loves to cuddle with blankets. He also has done well around other cats. So I do think if you give him time in your home, he would do ok with your friendly cats too.

12/29/17 UPDATE: Want to mention that Buddy will always look like a street cat. He has many scars on his face, ears, and back. Places where his hair will never grow back. He is a total love, so sweet once he trusts you. His favorite time of day is still meal time, ha. I am sure when you go hungry from being a stray for so long, you appreciate all food you get. Please consider adopting Buddy today!

3/29/19 UPDATE: Buddy is so sweet. He is really friendly now and loves to be petted. He has come a long way from the scared kitty we first took in. He is a lover boy and will be a great cat for almost any home. He easily gets along with new cats if introductions are set up properly.

Here is info on FIV. Buddy can live with other cats. Or if you also have a cat with FIV, he would be perfect!

http://wittykitties.org/id19.html

FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)

Both FIV and FeLV are called "retroviruses" because of the way that they replicate, or multiply, inside the cat's body. FIV is further classified as a lentivirus, or "slow virus."

An FIV-positive cat may live for many years. However, the virus eventually weakens the immune system, which limits the cat's ability to protect itself against other infections or illnesses. Periods of relatively good health may be interspersed with recurrent illnesses.

FIV is spread primarily through bite wounds. The virus is transmitted via the saliva of an FIV-positive cat when it bites deep into the tissue of another cat. It is therefore commonly found in tomcats as they fight for territory and mates. Casual, non-aggressive contact does NOT spread the virus. The virus cannot survive for more than a few hours when exposed to air. Therefore, an FIV-positive cat CAN live in a house with non-infected cats if they are all on friendly terms and don't fight with each other. Sharing food and water bowls, litter pans, and even grooming each other will NOT spread the virus.

If acquired during adulthood, a cat with FIV can live a long, full life, and many do. However, the weakened immune system can lead to recurrent or chronic conditions such as inflammation of the gums and mouth, skin, urinary, or upper respiratory infections, weight loss, anemia, persistent diarrhea, and cancer.

Will someone please adopt Buddy and give him a forever home? $95 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $150 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
