Bucket Domestic Short Hair Kerhonkson, NY

This adorable tuxedo cat is Bucket! He is one of the sweetest cats and wants to be friends with absolutely everyone. He does great with other cats, but we also think he would be totally happy as a solo cat. He loves to hang out with his people and spend time napping in his favorite sunspots. As far as we know, he hasn’t spent a lot of time with dogs, but we think he would warm up to a dog that just lets him be. He loves to play with string toys and is super gentle while he plays.

Bucket originally came to us from the NY ACC in January of 2022, after we pulled him off the euthanasia list. According to the paperwork we received with him, he had been adopted by a family with a 4 year old and did great with them but had been returned due to medical issues.

It turns out that Bucket has something called Megacolon, which means that he has a build up of feces due to some scar tissue. Since he’s been here with us, we’ve been able to figure out a good balance of special dietary food and medication to help find the balance between his stool being too soft or too hard. Bucket does use the litter box consistently, he just isn’t always in total control and can leave little spots around.

Because of his condition, Bucket does require a bit more grooming than a normal cat, including baths one to two times a week, and while he doesn’t enjoy it, he tolerates the baths with the angry grace only a cat is capable of and never hisses or tries to swat at whoever is bathing him. He never holds it against the person and once he is dry, he’s back to being his normal lovey self!
