Meet Boo & Pookie AKA Bookie

Do you love cats? We do, too! Do you have a calm house? Do you provide toys and feed wet food? We LOVE our cat tree perches in the windows. Do you have time and patience? We are very shy at first, but do you give treats? That will win our hearts. Do you have space in your heart and home for us? Are YOU our furever and purrfect?

Boo and Pookie were rescued from #TheBarn with several other cat friends. The environment they all lived in did not have a way of regulating temperature resulting in them living cold during the winter and very hot during the summer months. It was crowded, living with more than 170 cats at one point. The population and set up of the living space did not allow for human interaction and caused these felines a lot of stress, which resulted in a lot of hiding and shy cats. In foster care, they have been receiving a lot of attention and have shown their humans that they can be a loving and social kitties, they just need patient and kind adopters.

A recent update from Bookies foster family:

Boo is ~8 year old, beautiful brown tabby with white and Pookie is ~7 with more white and brown tabby spots and would like to be adopted together.

First let me say that we’ve been more than happy to be a soft place for Boo & Pookie to land since that horrible barn existence they both were living in. They have come a long way socially. (Boo of course had less of a struggle having been a house cat in a prior life.)

We are going on two years with them. Pookie is getting attached to me (and I to him), and the longer he stays, the more difficult it’s going to be for him to adjust to other situations. That’s a HUGE concern for me. Apart from I feel that I’ve/we’ve done about all we can as far as socializing him. They both need someone now who can take them the rest of the way, and then hopefully on to a forever family.

Boo is a love, but still has her skittish moments. She’s difficult at best to vet. On her recent yearly visit, the vet was only able to give her shots. We weren’t able to have her mouth looked at (something we desperately wanted done - just for a check up), ears cleaned, nothing else. There’s still a wild streak there. But she is a super sweet girl once she gets to know a person...with a little time and patience Boo will be a very loving girl. She LOVES to be petted, and a brushing with a soft bristled brush every now and again would be greatly appreciated. Boo loves other cats! She is very laid back, and wouldn't mind having a friend or two to call her own. Boo loves to play and chase, especially with wool felt balls, and cork balls and is quite the explorer.

Pookie is doing well, and coming along. His name was originally Spooky, but I noticed that every time I said his name, his eyes would widen and I'd run underneath the bed. It may seem silly, but I think he thought I was hissing at him. We dropped the 's', started calling me Pookie, and things got much better. The house life was very new and scary for Pook, but it is becoming less so as time goes on. He was never in a home...spending his entire life in a barn rescue. We are giving time, space, and understanding! Pookie started to greet people when they visited room, but still wary of the man of the house, although not as much as when I first came. He’s still a long way from trusting men (unless there’s a treat in hand), and still spooks at quite a few things, although never what I expect him to. ? Pookie now meows (quite loudly) for attention, while laying behind my feet with his tail straight up in the air. Boo is super excited at dinner time, and will chirp, dance, and put her front feet up on the cabinet to see why it’s taking me so long. Pookie purrs waiting for his dinner.

They love each other, they love other cats, and are both relatively laid back in that respect. Boo will be fairly adaptable to a new situation, I think, and Pookie could be, given the right circumstance. Especially if they’re together.

Please give them a chance!

*These kitties need to be indoor only but would love a catio!*
