Bingo's Story
Bingo is a quiet, unassuming cat who spent several months as a neighborhood stray. He'd be spotted sporadically, but was a bit wary of people and could never be pinned down so he could be rescued. Finally he found the feral cat buffet a nice lady puts out every day and started showing up regularly for meals, very quickly letting his guard down and allowing himself to be petted. Eventually he was able to be scooped up and put in a carrier to be rescued.

After going so long without the human affection he craves, he's now making up for lost time! He's not the type of cat to demand your attention, but he's sure going to show up in your lap or snuggle up next to you on the couch every chance he gets. An expert biscuit-maker, he really enjoys just spending time chilling out next to his human. He's a total lovebug, although a bit on the timid side so it takes him a bit of time to warm up and relax in a new setting.

He's currently settling into a new foster home in the Remington neighborhood of Baltimore City where he is the only pet. While this would likely be his preference, he could possibly also live with other chill kitties or maybe a calm dog. He mostly seems to just want to coexist with other critters and doesn't necessarily want to be buddies, though, so being an "only" might be more his style.

Bingo is about 2 years old, and a BIG boy (who could probably use a bit of a diet!). He's quite food motivated and loves all sorts of treats and especially wet food. He's not a super high energy guy, at least so far, but does like catnip and playing with toys. He's quiet and gentle by nature... although he has not been around any children in his foster home, he likely would do well with older kids at least. (Fast-moving/loud little people might be a bit scary for him, though.)

He is now neutered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, tested negative for feline leukemia, and microchipped.

Unfortunately Bingo did test positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), which is not surprising considering the length of time he spent on the streets. FIV is a virus that is pretty common in free-roaming unneutered cats and is primarily spread by deep bite wounds that happen when they fight over territory. FIV+ cats who are not aggressive (Bingo is definitely not!) can safely live with other cats, though, as long as everyone gets along. The virus cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other animals.

We're happy to explain more about FIV, but most cats who have it live normal lifespans, although some do have complications. The virus affects the cat's immune system, so they can sometimes be more susceptible to kitty colds and dental issues, but as long as they get good food and care and regular vet visits, they tend to do quite well! They don't require any medication or special care.

Bingo is a sweetheart of a cat who is very grateful to be safe and warm indoors, and he really wants a human of his own to snuggle up with this winter! Do you have a spot on your couch for this big hunk of love???

(Bingo is not part of Walter Rescue and is being listed here as a courtesy.)
