Bean is…
~ Outgoing, sweet and friendly
~ Great with all people, kids and even strangers
~ Active and loves to play with toys
~ Affectionate and loves attention
~ Great with friendly and respectful dogs or cats
~ Looking for a great forever home

Bean was adopted as a kitten from Waverly Pet Rescue. Unfortunately, he was declawed and then developed a bladder infection and was returned to Waverly Pet Rescue. He was then adopted by someone who decided to get a Husky about a year after he adopted Bean and Ari (another WPR cat). Soon after the owner adopted the dog, he decided to return Bean and Ari to WPR.

He was very sad and traumatized from being shuffled around so much. It took him some time to settle in and become comfortable and happy again. After he was returned the second time, he also hurt his back jumping down from a shelf that was too high. During this time, he was having difficulty using the litter box. He went to the vet for a full check-up to make sure there was no medical reason for the problem. Nothing was medically wrong, but the vet and I agreed that he had been through a lot and it was probably physical (from the injury), psychological or behavioral. His back healed well! I did a lot of behavioral training with him. I mostly focused on telling him he was loved and wanted.

His depression and feelings of abandonment are resolved. He needs owners that are willing to be aware that he still occasionally has sensitivity in his paws from his declaw and that makes the litter in the litter box uncomfortable for him at times. What I have done to combat this is to have a couple lower height litter boxes with about 1”-2” of litter in it so he does not have to stand with all four paws in the box. I have also placed a couple litter boxes out with just potty pads in them in case his paws are really bothering him. With these changes he never goes outside of the box.

I want to make sure he goes to the perfect home for him. WE do not want him to be returned again. It is very important that he go to a home that has plans to keep him for the rest of his life. He has been moved around a lot in his earlier life and he is ready to be settled into one family or with one person.

Bean’s adoption fee is $95.00. He is neutered, up to date on shots and had a teeth cleaning in May of 2017 and Jan. 2020.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
