Amber Domestic Short Hair Montclair, NJ

Amber was found in the woods behind a big apartment complex in Newark. She was petrified and starving. We can only imagine what happened to her. We suspect she was taken from her littermates too young, possibly abused or played with inappropriately, and then dumped outside when she got big (likely when she went into heat). She was missing hair on her tail and abdomen and two doctors believe it is from over grooming from stress. And now that she is safe, her hair is growing back!

As soon as we brought her in she wanted nothing else than to be held. All. The. Time.

Because of her past trauma, we have to admit, she is a little neurotic. Sometimes when we go to pick her up, she is swats or nips defensively. This is why we believe she was mishandled or mistreated. But she never draws blood or hurts us. But we have to assure her that everything is ok, and then we scoop her up and she is purring in our arms. The longer she is with us the more confident she is becoming so we do expect that this behavior will subside but for this reason she should be with somebody that understands cats that have been through stuff. ?

But If you want a kitty that wants to be on your lap for cozy nights in front of the TV and wrapped up in your arms under the covers when you sleep she is your girl. She is so affectionate and soaks it all in!

She is fine to be around other cats but isn't very interested in them. She is nervous at first but if cats are safe she can certainly share space with them. But she will hog all the laps!
