A few years back, Janet Paluck submitted a happy tail to Petfinder about her dog Yogi, whom she had had for three years. In it, she recounted how her long-time Jack Russell Terrier, Sparky, had died and how at first she didn’t want to get another dog. But then she saw Ted E. Bear listed on Petfinder, and she knew he needed her as much as she needed him. Ted, renamed Yogi (Janet’s a Yankees’ fan), was missing one leg, and might have a harder time being adopted. She couldn’t bear to see that happen. So she contacted H.A.R.T. (Homeless Animals Rescue Team) and applied to adopt him.
In 2013, Janet married Jerry Dudley, and Yogi was the ring bearer at the wedding. He even went along on their honeymoon to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
“That’s when we found out that he swims really well,” Janet says. “You would think a three-legged dog would swim in circles but not him. He was like a little tugboat heading to New York and, when I got him turned around, he was the tugboat heading to Florida.” They decided to relocate from the Washington, D.C., area to Lewes, Delaware, where Yogi can get more beach time–and he has a fenced backyard to boot.
In addition to swimming and hanging out in the backyard, “Yogi also likes to cruise the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach with his friend, Tater,” Janet says. “Tater is a Pug with bone spurs, so he has a little wheelchair, and the two of them together rule the boardwalk.
“We are so lucky to have neat friends near and far,” she says. No surprise, really. The fact is, Yogi is a friend magnet.
