Here at the Petfinder Foundation, we’ve given millions of dollars in vaccination grants to animal shelters and rescue groups. That means thousands of pets — including the adorable Casey, pictured here — have been protected from the communicable diseases so common in shelters.

Casey was adopted from Ark-Valley Humane Society in Poncha Springs, CO, which received a grant through our A Shot at Life program.

Ark-Valley Executive Director Laura Carter-Walden explains how vaccinations save lives: “Providing cats vaccinations upon intake is a best practice that assures that we are taking every precaution to prevent an outbreak of contagious illnesses. Vaccinated cats are less likely to get sick have a shorter length of stay. This means that healthy and vaccinated cats find homes sooner and save costs in terms of medical bills and staff time for our shelter.”

Six-month-old Casey arrived at Ark-Valley in August after his guardian passed away. He was vaccinated and, in September, found his forever home. His adopter writes that for the first 24 hours in his new home, “he did not stop purring! He explored every nook and cranny in the house and especially loves the high places. Surprisingly, he loves playing in water so his middle name is now Rango (after the movie about searching for water). He has brought so much laughter and joy to our home and our hearts. We love him!”
