Michael Vick made headlines in October when people learned that his family now included a Belgian Malinois named Angel. At the time there was a great deal of outcry.
Vick was quoted by USA Today as responding to critics by saying “I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet. As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”
Just recently, the New York Daily News reported that Vick was spotted at a local Petsmart, attending dog training classes with his bodyguard and dog. We definitely encourage new pet parents to educate themselves. We have to agree with USA Today’s speculation that would have made for a strange experience for the other parents in the class though!
