My heart raced yesterday evening as the nominees for “Best Country Solo Performance” were mentioned as I watched the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards. One of my favorite country artists, Carrie Underwood, was in the running for her performance of her recent hit song “Blown Away”.
As if Carrie’s success in the music industry alone wasn’t enough of a reason for me to idolize the Oklahoma native, I recently found out — while interning with Petfinder — that Carrie Underwood is also a big proponent of pet rescue and adoption. According to an article by E! Online, the singer was driving to visit family for the holidays when she rescued an abandoned dog on the side of the road. Without hesitation, Carrie gave the Labrador Retriever Stella immediate care and trained her as her own until she was later adopted by neighbors down the street. Petfinder blogged about it at the time.
According to an article by NewsOn6.com, Carrie has been a very active proponent of pet adoption throughout her life. She started a foundation in her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma to help homeless pets.
The trending of pet adoption amongst celebrities can help make our cause widespread and open the public’s eye to the need for help. We tip our hats to Carrie Underwood not only for being the deserving recipient of the 2013 GRAMMY award for “Best Country Solo Performance” but also for her humanitarian efforts and being an active advocate of pet rescue and adoption.
