Sometimes it’s not the dog someone sees on Petfinder that a person ends up adopting but serves as a channel to a perfect match. Renee Kulp’s mom saw a dog on the site that she wanted to rescue and noticed that Almost Home Dog Rescue of Doylestown, PA, was having a meet and greet the following Saturday.
“When we arrived at the location of the meet and greet,” Renee says, “we looked all around for ‘Buddy,’ the shepherd mix my mom wanted to rescue, but Buddy was not there that day.”
But another dog, Tommy, was, and there was an immediate sense of connection between Renee and Tommy. Tommy was a one-year-old Catahoula/Whippet mix. He was shy and scrawny, and when Renee noticed that he also limped, her heart went out to him. “I knew then I had to have this dog,” she says.
Her mom was not so sure. Fortunately, Tommy’s foster mom was able to tell them more about him. He had been dropped off in a box one night at a shelter and was eventually transferred to Amost Home. His foster mom furnished them with enough information to reassure Renee’s mom: he was already well trained, which is always a plus and had good manners. After a home visit, they were able to adopt Tommy.
Today, Tommy is no longer a timid pup, but “has blossomed into a wonder dog. He’s everything you could ask for in a dog,” Renee says. “I know that people say this all the time, but I am truly blessed to have him in my life. He’s taught me so much about myself, and our bond is unbreakable.”
