Our Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month video playlist and list of creative ways people can help dogs have contributed to a great kickoff for our online celebrations . We’re thrilled to be adding offline celebrations in the form of two great adoption events!
On Thursday, October 11, eight Petfinder member shelters and rescue groups will bring adorable adoptable dogs (and some cat friends, too!) to the Discovery Communications headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, MD. The event will run from 4-6pm and will have animals both indoors and outside. If you’re in the Washington, DC area (we’re just north of the District border), rsvp on Facebook and come meet some great pets! I personally can’t wait to have an excuse to leave my desk so I can play with some pups and pet some cats! If you come, be sure to say hello. Your photo might end up in one of my future blog posts!
That Saturday, from 12-3pm, Petfinder will be celebrating with another adoption event in New York City at member shelter, Animal Haven. If you’re near New York, keep Saturday afternoon clear, rsvp on Facebook and come meet some fabulous pups! We’ll have some great Petfinder people attending that event, too, so make sure to say hi. I won’t be there myself, but I know my friends can’t wait to meet some of the Petfinder family.
If you’re not near New York City or Silver Spring, there are tons of ways you can bring your celebrations into the offline world. You could use our local calendar to see what adoption events are happening near you. You could make a shelter dog’s day by volunteering at your local shelter — watch our dog’s-eye-view video about volunteering to rev yourself up! You could also offer to walk a friend’s foster dog where he’ll be seen by potential adopters. Or, if you or a friend have adopted a shelter dog, make sure to give her a great big hug and her favorite treat!
