Lost-Pet Reunions: A woman loses her best friend
A woman loses her best friend — by Brittney in Lenexa, KS
My Border Collie, Levi, has been with me through the toughest, life-changing parts of my life, acting as my support. He was the only one who cared for me. He was my companion and we grew super close. And, though this sounds odd, we had a lot in common. Anyway, my emphasis is that we were inseparable except for the two times he discreetly ran off.
The first time happened on a Friday night when I took him out to do his business and throw his ball around. When we both couldn’t find it, l searched a little deeper on my own. By the time I turned around to throw it to him, he was nowhere to be seen.
After four long, antagonizing and sleepless days walking in the heat,
handing out fliers and annoying every clinic in the city, I got a call
from animal control that Levi was found and was okay. They were nice
enough to come by my house and reunite me with baby!
You’d think I learned my lesson that time to keep an eye on him. Long
story short, he disappeared at a Halloween party when he was supposed to
be inside. I was devastated, looked for a couple hours and failed. So I
went on the HomeAgain website to make a poster email alert. I then forced myself to bed until a couple hours later when I
heard a knock on the door.
My neighbor across from me had Levi. Her aunt follows the HomeAgain alerts through her phone and called her
sister asking if my address was on the same street — the aunt who got the
alert doesn’t even live nearby — and sure enough I was. Coincidentally, they found Levi.
Without HomeAgain alerts, I wouldn’t
have gotten him back as quickly or at all.
Thank you for this service. I honestly was not expecting a response that
quickly at all. Now, a year later, Levi has not run away and I take
these alerts very seriously. I am still very involved in trying to get
these lost pets back to their parents and make their day like mine when
someone I didn’t even know helped to bring Levi home. Thank you for this
