L.A. shelter dogs are treated to top-shelf donated food

Thanks to a donation from our friends at Canadian pet-food company Darford, the homeless pets at L.A. County Animal Care and Control are being treated to some gourmet meals.

L.A. dogs like Duke will benefit from the dog-food donation from Darford.

Darford donated more than $53,000 worth of all-natural food and treats to the organization through the Petfinder Foundation.

“The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control intakes about 90,000 animals per year,” shelter manager Gil Moreno tells us. “The donations from Darford will help feed the homeless dogs in our care at the Carson Animal Care Center. We are extremely grateful for the generosity from the Petfinder Foundation.”

Officer Moreno picked up the supplies at a Darford distribution center in California in April (see a photo after the jump). The treats and food are a great asset for the shelter and the rescue groups with whom they work to find homes for their pets.

The folks at Darford are amazing to work with, and dedicated to both pet nutrition and helping homeless pets: Darford’s Plus One program enables customers to donate a meal to a shelter dog for each product purchased. You can find a store that sells Darford products at Darford.com.
