Meet Warren
Warren is an 8 year old India blue peacock. He has lived with a variety of other birds (turkeys, ducks, chickens) without any issues. He’s a sensitive soul who sleeps in a bantee chicken sized nesting box and has always been very gentle with his chicken friends.
Warren is skittish, especially of new people, but handleable and food motivated. He is not aggressive or territorial.
Warren enjoys hopping up on different perches, searching for grubs, and strolling around his aviary.
Peacocks can be very loud during mating season (around May-July) when the males “call”. Warren enjoys classic rock music which seems to help distract him from calling, although he can still be quite loud. Although they don’t look it, peafowl are strong fliers and can also jump very high. They can live over 20 years. They molt (shed) their beautiful tail feathers in late summer and regrow them until the next mating season. While he has his full plumage, he’s about 7 feet long, so shelter large enough to accommodate that long tail while turning around is important.
Warren would love a home away from neighbors that would be bothered by his calling, so country life would suit him.
A tall, covered aviary to prevent escaping and allow for stretching that long tail would be ideal. Peafowl will wander if they get out. An area of 100 square feet minimum is recommended for one peafowl.
Warren would like some feathered friends to bond with.
