• Parrots_Usual_Diet :
• RC's basic daily diet is bird bread made from ground parrot pellets and other ingredients (we will supply recipie). He also eats safflower seeds, likes to crack open and eat almonds in the shell every morning, and gets his daily "veggies" from an evening butternut squash ravioli (he isn't very good about veggies). He loves pieces of banana and pear, as well as occasional pieces of cooked salmon or cooked chicken. He loves pieces of cheddar cheese, but we usually limit that to once a week due to fat content. If you order pizza, expect him to ask for a small piece (apparently his original owner for his first 6 months fed him nothing but pizza and pasta).
• Talking_Ability :
• Cockatoos aren't as adept at talking as many other parrots, but he says "hello" very sweetly, and "pretty bird" while stroking the back of his head with his claw to indicate that he wants attention. He will sometimes say "Hi guys" or "Bye guys" when meeting or greeting strangers. On of his most common vocalizations is to say the name of one of the many dogs he has lived with followed by "come" in imitation of both us and the previous owner calling for one of the dogs.

• Behavior_4 :
• Generally well behaved, but will screech if agitated. Previous owner had trained him to be quiet indoors, but can become noisy if he needs feeding or wants attention. Vet finds him well-behaved.
• Reason :
• My wife is prone to allergies and pandemic confinement at home has made worsened her reaction to his powder. We decided for health reasons that we need to find another loving home for him.
• Notes :
• RC was adopted from his previous owner, a poodle breeder in CT, when he was 24. She had adopted him when he was 6 months old. In consequence, he thinks of poodles, and other dogs, as members of his "flock." He typically lives on a "roost" consisting of a nest of interwoven grapevines suspended from our living room ceiling, but we also put him in a free standing cage from time to time. He is a well-behaved cockatoo who likes to play with toys on his roost, strut along the top of our fence when the dogs are practicing agility in our back yard, and occasionally dance to music with my wife. He likes to sit with us when we put together birdie toys for him to take apart.
