Tell us if your bird has any behavior issues? Kiki is an absolute gem--she doesn't have any real behavioral issues but there are a couple things we're working on: independence and nibbling. She bonds very strongly with humans, so I've been trying to structure her days so she can learn to enjoy some time alone. Because Kiki is only 2 months old, she is very curious and likes to explore everything with her beak! She is not at all destructive and does not bite hard. Though she has never come anywhere near to breaking skin, I would not recommend her for children. Luckily, Kiki is extremely intelligent and perceptive. With consistency, I have no doubt she will succeed!
Why are you needing to rehome your bird? I am truly heartbroken to be rehoming this wonderful little lady. She is everything I wanted in a bird! Unfortunately, it turns out my dog is terrified of some of her chirping noises. Kiki is not particularly loud by any means--her sounds are normal. It just so happens that my dog is particularly sensitive. I live in a one-bedroom apartment so Kiki's presence has made life extremely stressful for my dog, which has made things very complicated for all three of us.
Provide us with any additional information that may help a candidate show interest in your bird. Kiki is such a special little parrotlet! She grew up hand-fed and lived with other parrotlets. Though she does not presently live with other birds, I’m certain she’d do well with another parrotlet. She’s presently eating Volkman’s Parrotlet with chia, flax, and quinoa added. She has slowly but steadily been taking to Roudybush crumbles. Her favorite treat is millet (in very small portions!). She also enjoys shredding/munching on leafy greens, cleaned eggshells, and celery. She’s not a huge fan of fruits or any fresh foods that are particularly juicy. Kiki is a hydration queen and if you present her with a cup of water she is very likely to take a sip or two! She is also good about bathing herself–every so often, you’ll find her taking a bath in her water bowl. When that happens, I gently plop her in some shallow, warm water and then let her sit on my bare skin as she dries because she gets cold easily.

Kiki is very brave and very social. It does not take her long to explore new toys and new spaces. When she wakes up for the day, she prefers having a moment or two to herself, but within 10 minutes, she’s ready to come out of her cage and spend time with you! To get her outside, she’ll happily hop onto your hand or climb out of an open cage door. She really loves to hang out with humans and be in the same room with them. She almost instantly learned to fly to my hand–no treats were necessary! She is still learning to be confident about hanging out on shoulders, but she’ll love riding on top of your head!

Kiki is a very sassy and spunky girl–a true parrotlet! There really is no shortage of personality with this one. You’ll never get bored of her and it’s hard not to fall in love with her. She is truly a joy. She is also a bit of a busy-body, so I’ve been helping her learn to forage and she has really enjoyed it! She also loves toys that are meant to be shredded or destroyed. She’s also great with positive reinforcement training. Right now, she has mixed feelings about scritches and help with preening from humans. Her adult feathers are still coming in so her skin is quite sensitive and uncomfortable! However, we have had a few very gentle scritches sessions that she loved. Once her new feathers come in and she’s more comfortable, I’m sure she’ll love it even more. Because Kiki is still so young and curious, it is very easy to mold her behavior and socialize her to your lifestyle. However, it is absolutely necessary that you first build trust with her and respect her boundaries. After that, she should have no problem following your lead!

Though Kiki is not at all aggressive, she is not afraid to express her displeasure through vocalizations and warning pecks. For this reason, it is important to me that she goes to a home that is not forceful but rather respectful of her emotions and fears. She is so small and so young–she needs love and a gentle hand! It is very easy for Kiki to warm up, but it needs to be on her terms and she needs to build trust with her handler(s).

Kiki will come with all her food, millet, toys, perches, three stainless food/water bowls, a small bird carrier, a small T stand, and her cage–everything you need! In the future, I would prefer she live in a bigger cage.
