I had lost my dog in February 2010 and in March I started my search for a new companion. I came to Petfinder and entered Jack Russell Terrier as my breed of choice. The very first picture to show up was of a JRT mix who was looking up at the camera with such soulful eyes and laid-back ears. Imagine my surprise when I saw he was located in my local shelter. I visited the shelter to see "Mello," his shelter name, and found him to be very frightened to come to the front of the kennel. We went to the "Get to know you yard," and he still was very reserved and would not come up to me. I told the staff I wasn't sure since I was looking for a dog to train for pet-assisted therapy. I told them I would come back the next open shelter day. Well, I could not stop thinking about him and went back early the next open day. Again, he would not come up to me, but I did observe he would stay close to the shelter staff and the animal control office who brought him in. I decided to take a chance with him and have been ever so grateful since. He is such a loving, friendly dog that everyone who meets him immediately falls in love with him. I changed his name to Finn, and we have been partners ever since.
