My boyfriend and I spent two years searching tirelessly through Craigslist ads for a cat-friendly apartment (almost non-existent in San Francisco). We desperately wanted to adopt a feline companion, and after years of searching, finally signed the lease to a pet-friendly apartment. Before we even moved in, I began my search for the perfect kitty.
Dozens of Petfinder ads and two meet and greets later, we met our Dolores (who, then, was known as Persia). At five years old, she was rather shy in her kitten-filled foster home, but was unmistakably beautiful. Her Petfinder ad said that she had been found stray and starving, and neither my boyfriend nor I could understand how anyone could abandon such a beauty.
Though she seemed shy, her foster mom promised that she was a sweetheart and total cuddle bug -- which was exactly what we were looking for.
We took a leap of faith and signed the adoption papers on the spot. We moved into our pet-friendly apartment a week later, and returned to pick up Dolores the next day.
Two months later, we could not be happier with our decision. Dolores is the sweetest, cuddliest, most affectionate cat I have ever come in contact with. She sleeps cuddled between us every night, amuses us with her spurts of crazy playfulness, and never ceases to thank us for saving her from her situation. She is happy and healthy, and we are obsessed with her.
