Allie - A Petfinder Happy Tail

I moved out of my parents house about a year ago for the first time. Although the new-found freedom was nice, I was so accustomed to being surrounded by people and the family cat for years, that naturally it only took me about a month to discover that I was much too lonely. I decided that I wanted a pet with personality, and began my search for the perfect dog. I discovered the Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association from petfinder.com, and a particular dog caught my eye. When I emailed the shelter about this dog, they told me that the dog's foster family had decided to adopt him. So it was back to square one for me, or so I thought. I gave a lady at this shelter a call and was asked what qualities I was looking for in a dog. After going over what was most important to me she told me she thought they may have the perfect dog. I was told she was black, which made it statistically harder for her to be adopted, and on top of that her leg had been injured and never healed correctly which caused her to limp. This lady seemed to truly believe that those were the only things holding this young lab mix back from being adopted, describing her as being so sweet and loving. Something about it felt right, so I hung up the phone, got in my car and drove for an hour and a half to see this dog. Once I arrived it only took me about five minutes to decide that she was a match for me. It was the best decision I have ever made; my family loves her, as well as everyone else that meets this pup. She is spoiled rotten and keeps me company like no one else could. When people say "I didn't just save the dog, the dog saved me", they are spot-on because I couldn't imagine life without her now.
