Babe - A Petfinder Happy Tail

From Judith of Torrington, WY
I volunteer at our local shelter and I was cleaning kennels the morning Babe came in. My heart sank when I saw her. Unless her owners came for her soon, Babe would die. She was confused and scared but she wasn't abused. She wasn't sick or starved. She wasn't aggressive or very old, but she already had two strikes against her. Babe is black and black dogs don't get adopted as readily as lighter colored ones. Babe is a pit bll and they don't get adopted here at all. Days went by and I watched Babe. By her second day, she was showing us who she truly is: a dog who loves everything that breathes. She would probably wag her tail and try to lick the hand that gave her the final shot. I couldn't stand that so I did what many shelter volunteers do. I opened the kennel gate and took her home.
This photo was taken at a dog show where Babe earned the first of her AKC obedience titles. She's one of the lucky ones after all.
