Pocket - A Petfinder Happy Tail

From Emily of Washington, DC
My husband and I grew up dog lovers (him on the West Coast, me on the East Coast). A year after we met, I moved into his non-dog-friendly apartment and we started planning our wedding. Things were great. We both loved our jobs and were happy creating our life together. However, something was missing. Whenever we'd see a dog on the street, we'd have to bend down and pet it. We watched dog show after dog show on Animal Planet. We knew things had gotten bad when we found ourselves standing outside the local dog park fence ogling all the adorable dogs inside. It was time to move to a dog-friendly apartment. After the move, the search for our perfect companion was on. We knew for sure that we wanted to rescue versus buy from a breeder. We immediately turned to Petfinder and fell in love with 1,000 dogs. One stood out. His name was Billy and he was from a local rescue in Washington, DC. After our application was approved and our home inspection was complete, we drove to Billy's foster home. He ran out to greet us with his foster mom and 5 or so other dogs and before we even got out of the car, we knew he was the one for us. We took him on a short walk, fell in love and took him home 20 minutes later. 'Pocket', we decided, was the perfect new name for our pup. He is the perfect, 11 pound mix of spunk and lap-dog. He'll watch TV with us on Friday night and hike 6 miles with us on Saturday morning. He's so amazingly sweet and fun. Neither of us can be in a bad mood around him- he sucks it right out. We look forward to coming home to him every evening. We couldn't ask for a better companion. We don't have a lot of information about Pocket's previous life (he doesn't like to talk about it), but I can't imagine how such a sweet dog like him (and thousands of others!) would end up in a shelter. I want to thank Petfinder for bringing Pocket to us- he has been such a gift.
