Poppy - A Petfinder Happy Tail

Bringing Poppy home was a labor of love. We had lost our 8 month old kitten Lily to a congenital heart defect, and we were planning on purchasing a kitten from a breeder to eliminate the risk of dealing with this same heart problem.
I was surfing Petfinder, and narrowed my search to young female Siamese any distance from me. Poppy (formerly Sasha) was literally the last kitten on the last page. I was in Michigan, she was in Alabama. Most people would have kept looking.
The shelter had never done a transport, and I had no vet contacts in the area, so I called the shelter to confirm that she was still available, and then I hopped in my car and started the drive.
18 hours and 4 cans of Red Bull later, I was standing in the shelter with the most perfect kitten I had ever seen. The ride home was filled with rock slides, multi-car accidents, and tons of snow, but less than 36 hours after I left Michigan, I was pulling back into my driveway with our newest family member in tow.
In the two weeks we've had her home, she has become such a joy. She moved right in, and she's adjusted so well. I'm so glad that I decided to drive 36 hours round trip on a whim to adopt a kitten without first meeting her.
It just goes to show you that love knows no distance!
