From Michael of Methuen, MA

A year and a half ago, we lost our dog, Bootsie, when she was killed in an accident. She had been a rescue dog and she was only 2 years old. It really devastated our little family of 4 and we weren't sure if we would ever be able to find another dog to love.

My daughter Jamie, who is 7 now, was really hurt and spent many nights crying about her beloved Bootsie. My wife and I really had a hard time deciding whether or not we should get another dog and possibly put her through something like that again.

After about a year, we decided that we should start looking for a new member of our family and began looking on as we knew we wanted another rescue dog.

We also checked the local shelters and couldn't really find a perfect match. We knew what we wanted and knew that we would find our match.

Finally, I was looking at my daily email and saw Rex who was available at the Salem Animal Rescue League in Salem, NH. I went on their web page and sure enough Rex was still available.

Rex is a mixed breed German Shepherd, Labrador and some bit Bassett Hound. He was so cute and I immediately showed him to my wife Cathy, Jamie and my son, Michael, who is 11. We all fell in love with Rex and knew that this was our match. The shelter was closed the next day but we were sure to get to the shelter the day after as soon as it opened. I took my lunch hour, picked up the family and we all headed to SARL to meet Rex.

As I had hoped, it was love at first sight and Rex seemed perfect for us. He was a little older than a new puppy, about 5 months, but still young enough to begin his life with us. Rex gave kisses and walked so well on the leash. We spent about 45 minutes with him and decided that he was coming home with us. We paid his adoption fee and said "Good night!". We were going home to get the house ready for our new family member. We purchased his crate, a couple of bowls, some food and a couple of toys.

We learned that Rex had come from Tennessee and that his mother had been dropped off two days before he was born and he was born in a shelter. He was moved to anther shelter and then transported to New Hampshire where we met him.

When we picked Rex up the next day, he came with his best friend, a stuffed animal called Mr. Hedgehog. Rex and Mr. Hedgehog had made the long journey from Tennessee together and they were buddies.

Rex has fit right in with our family and is already a very important part of our lives. He is already crate trained and is the star of his training class. Rex is special to us. We look forward to many years of happiness together.
