We have kittens!

You can visit our cats in their day-to-day lives on our blog, Wildrun.

For more information about feral cats, visit our American Cat Project website.

Adoption Procedure

Send us an email about yourself, your home, and what you are looking for in a cat! Please do not just send us an email saying "I'd like Cleo! When can I come!" Our cats are individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Knowing something about you helps us let you know if this cat is the right cat for you.

The adoption fee is a $50 donation to the non-profit local animal organization of your choice or to our veterinarian for the future care of rescued cats. Wildrun is not incorporated as a nonprofit and donations directly to Wildrun are not tax deductible.

All cats and kittens are:

Neutered!
FeLV/FIV tested
Treated for fleas and roundworms
Vaccinated for upper respiratory diseases
Vaccinated for rabies, if over 3-4 months of age
Adult cats that have not seen a vet within the last 3 months will receive a second, pre-adoption vet visit

We adopt to indoor homes only, and cats may not be declawed. We have had declawed cats returned to us because pain in their toes caused them to no longer use the litter box.

All of our kittens and cats come from feral (wild)backgrounds or were abandoned on country roads. Many of our bottle-raised kittens are fat, friendly, and can be adopted into active vibrant homes. Other kittens and older cats are shy. They will bond closely with their new owners and be very affectionate, but they will disappear under the couch when visitors arrive!

Therefore we screen callers closely to make sure one of our cats is really right for you. They are beautiful healthy cats and letter from past adopters attest that they make loving personal pets. But they need quiet, affectionate, thoughtful, cat-savvy homes. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like to determine if a Wildrun cat is for you.

Email us about any cat you are interested in, or even if you just wish to visit to see all the cats in person. We will make an appointment for you to come out and spend some time, or you can visit during a Sunday Coffee and Kittens event.

Come Visit Us!

Wildrun is located in Spencer, New York, about 30 miles south of Ithaca, and 18 miles north of Owego. Directions will be emailed to you if you want to visit.

We do not list our physical address here due to past problems with drop-offs that have resulted in injury to cats abandoned on our road, but we will gladly have you out to see our place in person!

Who We Are

Once upon a time there was a little wildlife control business called Wildrun. We provided humane wildlife control for a local college and the Ithaca area for 15 years. The college had many abandoned cats, and we began rescuing feral kittens. People heard about us, and it has snowballed from there. When spay/neuter became more affordable in our region, we also offered capture and spay/neuter for barn cats and feral (wild) cats. We now have a small, privately run cat facility near Spencer NY where we offer rescued and tamed feral cats and kittens for adoption to approved homes. We usually have between 5-20 cats available at a time.

We primarily help elderly, low-income, or other citizens who have found themselves overwhelmed with abandoned cats and need a hand. We only help people willing to also help themselves (even if they can only help a little). We consider ourselves a "neighbors helping neighbors" program. Once we leave a site, we want to know every cat is fixed, and the problem will not reoccur. Locally we provide this service for free, as time and funds permit. We do sometimes ask landowners to contribute 50% to the cost of spay/neuter of adult barn and feral cats. Cat rescue is now our primary activity and Wildrun no longer provides wildlife services.

We encourage pet owners to follow the link to these Animal Planet training videos to strengthen the bond with your pet, and prevent or resolve common conflicts that arise. These videos are great for new adopters!

Wish List!

People have asked that we include a wish list so if they cannot adopt, they can help the cats we are caring for. We can ALWAYS use:

Paper towels, paper towels, paper towels!
Window cleaner
Paper plates, both large and small (buy cheap, buy bulk!)
Baby food, baby food, baby food! Turkey or chicken.
Canned 9 Lives food. Pop-top. Bland (turkey/chicken), ground (no sliced stuff)
Please do not donate dry food. We have a supplier.
Cat beds. They only last about 6 months, here, before they are played to death. "Washable" is a must. If you aren't sure, don't invest your hard-earned money on something that may not survive the washing machine.
Towels
Ferret hammocks (the big size with fleece, about $15) so our kittens have more playroom in a cage)

Thank you!!!
