WI BICHON FRISE RESCUE

ENGLISH SETTER NEEDS A NEW HOME

Owner of English Setter must give their 7-year-old neutered, housebroken, gentle, male to a new home.
Jake would prefer a fenced yard so that he can romp & play daily.
Owner reports that he has gotten loose several times & gone to the neighbor's house. Their neighbors have threatened to shoot him. (How would you like to live next to Jake's neighbors? How sad!)
If you don't have a fenced yard, he also loves to go on long, daily walks.
Volunteers to WI-BFR have offered to help in this search.
PLEASE WRITE IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO OFFER JAKE A GREAT HOME!

MIDGE

Midge is an adorable 10 year old gal whose owner has gone into assisted living & had to leave her behind.
She is looking for a somewhat quiet home where she can be spoiled rotten with love.

MEET "COOPER"

Cooper is the most handsome 6-year-old CAVACHON (Bichon + King Charles Spaniel) boys that you have ever seen! He is not only soft, but gentle & independent.
Cooper was surrendered because of his severe separation anxiety. He wants to be with his human companion 24/7.
The nice thing about this is that unlike a "Velcro-Bichon", Cooper is content to simply be in the same room with you.
Cooper will also need to wear a Belly Band when you are unable to watch him.
Belly Bands are lovingly made & donated by a WI-BFR volunteer.
Cooper is anxious for a new home of his own. Request an adoption application at: wibichon@yahoo.com

SAY "HELLO" TO PRINCESS

This sweet 12 year old Bichon is was recently surrendered when her family hit a bump in the road-of-life.
Princess was the proud mother to many puppies over the years, but at what cost?
Princess's entire mammary area had to be surgically removed recently.
She was full of huge tumors.
Princess was also in danger of developing Pyometra, a Serious Uterine Infection,
often requiring emergency surgery.
WI BFR made sure that Princess also had had a two inch mass removed from behind her ear,
her teeth cleaned, including 9 extractions, was spayed, ultra sounds, x-rays,
blood work, urine testing, is up-to-date on her vaccinations, & is on a monthly heart worm preventative.

HOSPICE CARE - ANOTHER GIFT FROM WI-BFR VOLUNTEERS

Libby & her best bud Dexter (both fragile health seniors) arrived 2 years ago when their Hu-Mom suffered a health tragedy of her own.
Having lost their income source, home & all that they knew to be their own, they sought the open arms of a WI-BFR volunteer.
Miss Libby welcomed her dear friend Mr. Dexter (on 4-1-09), as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge to be with her.
Their journey is over

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Muffin's owner also sought a loving home for her medically fragile girl two years ago.
Muffin found Hospice Care with a fantastic WI-BFR volunteer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Bichons are in need, WI-BFR members strive to do everything within their abilty to help.
Hospice care is one of the the many gifts that WI-BFR volunteers give of themselves.

WHAT A JOY! He bounces. He twirls, He jumps like a deer. Buddy came to a WI-BFR a few months ago & immediately endured having a hernia repaired and some teeth removed. He is now healed & his sweet little tail continues to wag 100-miles-per-hour! You can apply for him now. Find out more about Buddy by clicking on our Adoptable Pets list below.

~ A WI-BFR TRUE STORY ~
CORKY - ALWAYS HAS A SMILE!

Once upon a time, there was a little Bichon named Corky who accidentally got loose from his owner's home. His curious nose took him deep into the woods. He was gone for two weeks & his family had given up all hope of ever finding him. A hunter found Corky, nearly dead from wounds inflicted when he was mauled by an animal. The veterinarian saved his life, but Corky lost an eye and developed a seizure disorder because of the severe head trauma. Corky's personality changed & his family made the difficult decision to surrender him to WI-BFR. Corky is obviously in need of a good grooming, but due to emergency surgery last week, that will have to wait. Corky's leg ligaments & knee were ripped & were causing him severe pain.
The Happy Ending is that Corky is going to live for many more years!

It is difficult to find people who want to adopt under-socialize & non-house broken dogs.
In many cases, the alternative to WI-BFR not caring for these special fluffs was euthanasia in an animal shelter.
Thankfully, we have wonderful volunteers who could not let that happend.
Our hope is that one day, adoptive parent will come along to give them a forever home of their very own.
Until that day - will you open your heart to help?
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

    NEWS

    HELP US SAVE BICHONS IN NEED OF MEDICAL CARE!

    Bichons that are surrendered to Bichon Rescue are usually in need of vaccinations, heart worm testing, fecal culture, dental exam & cleaning and are frequently not spayed/neutered or groomed. Each receives a comprehensive physical and we treat any existing conditions. The cost to do this far exceeds any donations that we receive from adoptive families. Rescue groups must make up the deficit in order to continue taking dogs into rescue. We need the help that you can provide us with!

    Who Are We & What Do We Do?

    WI Bichon Frise Rescue was founded to serve the needs of Bichons Frises and their owners in about a 150-mile-radius of Madison, WI. WI Bichon Frise Rescue, Inc. is NOT a shelter. We are a group of volunteers who take in Bichons Frises & Bichon Mixes from various situations, most commonly from someone surrendering the dog (i.e. moving, unable to care for animal anymore, etc), from animal shelters and from puppy mill situations. WI-BFR foster parents provide the dog with food, behavior modification, medication/vet care, exercise, socialization, and of course lots of LOVE! The needs of organization have increased dramatically over the last several years. Due to this fact, foster homes are needed. If you don't have a Bichon, fostering may be a good way for you to see if a Bichon Frise is right for your home. If you are unable to foster, but would still like to be a volunteer, we gratefully welcome the assistance of people who can pick-up and transport too.

    CONTACT US for a fostering/volunteer application!

    Once an individual sees a Bichon Frise on our Pet Finder list that they believe may be a good match, they should request an adoption application. If the match looks like a good one, the WI-BFR foster parent will set up a time to do a home visit with the dog.

    SURRENDERING A BICHON FRISE

    If you need to surrender a Bichon Frise, you may contact us at this same e-mail address (wibichon@yahoo.com) or call: (608-482-1513).

    Questions & Answers About Adoption

    QUESTION ANSWER
    Where can I see dogs available for adoption? At the very top of this page you will see a link that says "Our Adoptable Pet List". Click on the link and it'll take you directly to our available Bichons! Otherwise, if you scroll just below this table, you'll see a link that says "click here for a list of pets at this shelter". You can see pictures and read all about him/her directly from the foster parents who know him/her best!
    Why do I have to live less than 150 miles of Madison? Part of our philosophy is establishing a relationship with you as a new pet owner. We want you to meet the dog and see if it's a good fit. One of our volunteers will bring the dog to you and give you a chance to ask questions and see how he/she interacts at your home. We will also check in after a few weeks post-adoption to see how things are going for you and the dog.
    Why do I need to provide references? We want our Bichons to go to trustworthy loving homes. If you have a pet we will be contacting your vet to inquire about the care of your current animal. If you do not have a pet, we will contact non family references to ask about you and your home. References will be checked prior to finalizing the adoption.
    How much do these rescue Bichons cost? The cost to adopt one of our dogs depends on age and health.
    Will the dog be up to date on shots? Yes! Prior to adoption any dog from WI Bichon Rescue will be up to date on all vaccination shots and be tested for heartworm.
    Can I expect the dog to be spayed or neutered? Yes! Part of the adoption fees guarantees your Bichon will be spayed or neutered.
    What do I need to do to start the adoption process? Send us an e-mail, WIBICHON@YAHOO.COM and we'll forward you an application. Simply fill out the application, return it to us, and we'll be in contact with you very soon!
    What happens if I don't see a dog I like on the site or if I meet the dog and it won't work out? No problem! We are constantly getting new dogs into rescue. Be patient and just keep checking our site! Sooner or later the right dog will catch your eye and your heart.
