Who We Are
The Humane Society of Wayne County is a non-profit, all volunteer organization founded in 1995. The Society receives no funding from city or county government or The Humane Society of the United States.
It is dependent entirely from membership dues and donations.
With the help of volunteers, dues and donations, we are able to:
Sponsor low-cost spay /neuter clinics,
Run educational programs,
Manage a foster care program,
Investigate cruelty and/or abuse cases for all animals, and
Take a look at the Happy Tails section for happy endings for some the rescued dogs from our County. And please visit their websites to see what good works these folks do in taking unwanted throw-away dogs and making them happy, healthy and productive members of families in areas around the Country.
If we all work together we can make a difference
one person/animal at a time
Remember we are all God’s creatures
PLEASE HELP US HELP OUR ANIMALS
Adopting a friend
Shelters are full of great animals looking for loving homes, thrown away simply because they are no longer cute, cuddly little babies. You have the power to make a difference. If you are considering a new pet call, the local holding station (606) 348-0575, the Tri-County Animal Shelter (606) 387-0943, or the Wayne County Humane Society (606) 343-0096.
Come Visit Us!
Since we do not have a shelter, all fostering is done in our homes. Currently we have only four members who do foster care so the number of dogs and cats we can save is limited. Our goal is to some day have a small shelter of our own. Last year there were over three thousand dogs and cats euthanized at our Tri County Shelter (Wayne, Clinton, and Cumberland County.) We realize it is impossible to save them all, but we can’t help but wonder how many of these dogs and cats could have been saved but never got the chance.
Please consider adopting a pet or even being a foster parent to one of these loving creatures. We are seeing an increase in abandoned and neglected animals. We desperately need people who are willing to foster some of these animals until we can find permanent homes for them. Can you please help us?
