Basic Obedience Training
Our basic obedience classes this Fall ran from September 9 through October 14th. Check back here for the next available session or call 606-343-0096
The cost is only $75 and your pet will learn "dog manners" and have lots of fun in the process.
Spay and Neuter Clinic
Our last clinic was held in November 2008. Please call 343-0096 for more information on the next clinic.
Please spay or neuter your pet. Did you know that one female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in just seven years? (source: ASPCA)
Who We Are
The Humane Society of Wayne County is a non-profit, all volunteer organization founded in 1995. The Society receives no funding from city or county government or The Humane Society of the United States.
It is dependent entirely from membership dues and donations.
With the help of volunteers, dues and donations, we are able to: Sponsor low-cost spay /neuter clinics,
Run educational programs,
Assist in the cost of emergency veterinarian care,
Donate dog or cat food and doghouses to those in need,
Manage a foster care program,
Investigate cruelty and/or abuse cases for all animals, and
Partner with therapy dog training programs.
Many of the dogs in Wayne County that we rescue are taken up to therapy organizations: 4-Paws for Ability, located in Xenia, Ohio and Pawsibilities Unleashed, located in Frankfort, Kentucky. Both groups take rescued dogs and train them to assist people with disabilities.
Take a look at the Happy Tails section for happy endings for some the rescued dogs from our County. And please visit their websites to see what good works these folks do in taking unwanted throw-away dogs and making them happy, healthy and productive members of families in areas around the Country.

Adopting a friend
Shelters are full of great animals looking for loving homes, thrown away simply because they are no longer cute, cuddly little babies. You have the power to make a difference. If you are considering a new pet call, the local holding station (606) 348-0575, the Tri-County Animal Shelter (606) 387-0943, or the Wayne County Humane Society (606) 343-0096.
Come Visit Us!
Since we do not have a shelter, all fostering is done in our homes. Currently we have only four members who do foster care so the number of dogs and cats we can save is limited. Our goal is to some day have a small shelter of our own. Last year there were over three thousand dogs and cats euthanized at our Tri County Shelter (Wayne, Clinton, and Cumberland County.) We realize it is impossible to save them all, but we can’t help but wonder how many of these dogs and cats could have been saved but never got the chance.
Please consider adopting a pet or even being a foster parent to one of these loving creatures. We are seeing an increase in abandoned and neglected animals. We desperately need people who are willing to foster some of these animals until we can find permanent homes for them. Can you please help us?
