WAG is an all-volunteer, non-profit (501c3), domestic companion animal rescue organization dedicated to placing homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens in permanent, loving, responsible homes.
Active in Southeast Michigan, with primary focus on the Downriver area for the past 18 years, WAG accepts strays and owner give-ups into our adoption program.
Because we do not have a shelter facility, WAG is dependant on select foster care providers to accommodate the needs of homeless animals until permanent placement is found. These very special volunteers are responsible for providing love and attention, as well as transporting the animals in their care to veterinary appointments and adopt-a-pet events. WAG pays for all necessary veterinary care, working directly with several local veterinary clinics. WAG is always in need of additional responsible foster care providers.
When an owner is giving up their own animal for adoption, WAG usually requires that the owner continue to provide shelter and care while we actively work to match the animal with a new, permanent home. Canines are placed on our wish list, which is a highly effective means of matching an animal with a pre-screened adopter. In addition, canine owner give-ups are oftentimes participants of our adopt-a-pet events. Felines are a far greater challenge to find homes for, therefore it is infrequent that a foster home is available for owner give-ups.

WAG has a cash-only policy on adoption fees.
Every canine and feline over the age of 6 months is spayed/neutered prior to adoption, and all animals ready for adoption are current on vaccinations, have tested negative for heartworm (dogs) and feline leukemia/FIV (feline AIDS) (cats), and have been dewormed. For animals less than 6 months of age, state law requires that the adopter sign a contract that he/she will get the animal spayed or neutered by the time it reaches 6 months old. WAG holds a deposit that is refunded when proof of spay/neuter is provided.
Adoption fees provide some recuperation of costs associated with providing in-home and necessary veterinary care while the animal is in our program. Oftentimes the standard adoption fee is less than what we've incurred in costs. The benefit of adopting from an organization that provides in-home foster care is that the animal's behavior has been evaluated by their care providers in a natural living environment, rather than the oftentimes unpleasant surroundings of a shelter. WAG foster care providers care for the animals as if they are their own, and learn to know the animal's likes and dislikes, ability to co-exist with other animals, ability to tolerate children, and so forth.
*Fees may occasionally be different than published due to circumstances surrounding individual animals.

ANIMALS WHO URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP
Most animals in our program need just routine veterinary care - vaccines, heartworm or FIV/Feline Leukemia "combo" tests, deworming, and spay/neutering. Occasionally, though, we become temporary guardians of animals in need of more serious medical help. Our adoption fees, donations, and fund-raisers will usually cover the cost of routine veterinary care for the many animals in our care, but to help the seriously ill or injured animals that make their way to WAG, we need additional funds. The stories of these "special needs" animals are described below. If one of their cases tugs strongly at your heart-strings, please considering making a special donation to WAG to help them. Please include the name of the animal you are helping, and send your donation to

Thank you, on behalf of these special WAG Animals!

Can't adopt a new pet at this time? How about sponsoring a pet in need of a home?! Sponsors help defray the cost of veterinary care.
As a sponsor, your name will be posted on the animal's adoption page. You'll receive a photo and story of the pet you choose, and you will also receive our bi-yearly newsletter.
You can sponsor an animal through a regular monthly donation, or as a one-time gift to WAG Animal Rescue. If your dog or cat is adopted, we will contact you by phone and you can choose another one of our wonderful pets to sponsor while it awaits its permanent home.
If you're interested in becoming a sponsor for an animal in foster care, indicate which pet you would like to sponsor and send your donation to:

Do you wish to share your time with a homeless animal? WAG has several volunteer opportunities available!
Fostering is a very heartwarming experience, and is by far the most direct way in which you can provide an opportunity for a life of happiness for an otherwise homeless animal. You'll most certainly be rewarded for opening your heart and your home by many wet, sloppy, puppy kisses, and/or sweet kitty purrs.
Assisting with adopt-a-pet events is another opportunity for direct interaction with homeless animals. Walking dogs, cuddling with cats, and tidying up cages are all part of the adopt-a-pet experience. In addition, transferring animals and materials to and from the events and assisting in set-up and break-down cages is another way of getting directly involved.
Fundraising is vital for our continued ability to assist the homeless animals. A variety of events are held throughout the year, and WAG is always in need of volunteer time and talent. Pictures with Santa is a fun, hands-on event. WAG fundraising includes community outreach events, such as promoting our services to the animals of the community by having a craft and information booth at the well-attended Wyandotte Street Art Fair. Concurrent with the street fair, WAG holds its annual garage sale. Volunteers are needed for manning the booth at these events, and it's a great way to interact with other animal lovers from the area. Lastly, WAG holds numerous other events throughout the year, including Koeze Nut sales, Cosmic Bowling events, etc. Volunteers are always needed!
