Thanks to Our Friends of the Shelter Donors

Donations made by people who support the Friends of the Shelter through donations at offsite adoption events, at the shelter, and by mail have been used to purchase Samsung tablets for the Animal Control Field Officers to help track complains about abuse and neglect, repeat offenders for stray dogs, and nuisance complaints, while still at the location in the field. This will help the officers be more efficient in following up on complaints and in writing citations. If you would like to donate for future projects to improve conditions for the shelter animals and those in need in the County, mail your donation to: Friends of the Shelter, P.O. Low cost spay and neuter of pets for low income families in Valencia County

 New Mexico Animal Friends is offering low cost spay and neuter of pets in low income families in Valencia County. Income eligibility and co-pays are required. Call 881-7297 to get more information about how to qualify.

!!!TRANSPORTERS NEEDED!!!

There are rescues and shelters outside of Valencia County that are willing to take some of our adoptable pets into rescue. Help is needed to drive them from the shelter to locations in Alamogordo, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and several shelters in Colorado. If you would like to offer your time and vehicle to help get some of our shelter pets to safe places outside of Valencia County you can sign on as a transport volunteer. Call the shelter at 866-2479 x3 and ask for Patty, the rescue transfer coordinator.

If you have lost a pet in Valencia County or the surrounding areas, be sure to look for your pet at the Valencia County Animal Shelter located in Los Lunas at 1209 Hwy 314, 1 mile south of Main Street next to Daniel Fernandez Park (866-2479). The shelter is open Tuesday 9:00am-3:00pm Wednesday thru Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Adopting a friend

Please note that the shelter is unable to 'hold' animals. .

Animals taken to the shelter are held for three business days to allow the owner to reclaim the pet. If they are not reclaimed they are available for adoption.

The adoption fee is $92.00 for dogs and puppies and $72.00 for cats and kittens.
The adoption fee covers the surgical sterilization, a one year rabies vaccination and a booster vaccination.

Come Visit Us!

We do appreciate donations to help provide extras for the shelter dogs and cats in our facility. We do realize that they must get bored while they are here so we would like to be able to provide them with chewies and toys... We have also recently had our staff members take the initiative to start bathing some of our shelter dogs so we would like to also continue providing them with the shampoo, towels, and vaccinations they need. Like they say, "A clean dog has a better chance of finding a home than a dirty dog".... If you would like to donate items, please contact the shelter.
Note: A donation of common household beach is always welcome.
