Union Township Animal Shelter
Who We Are
Union Township Animal Shelter is a municipal shelter which provides animal control services services for the Township of Union, New Jersey. Proof of residency is required for Union residents surrendering pets to the shelter. We ask that you please bring your pet's medical records and provide us with any information you can to assist us in attempting to place your pet. Animal surrenders are accepted during the shelter hours listed below.

MICROCHIP CLINIC
Don't let your pet sit in the shelter needlessly- have your pet microchipped. The Union Township animal control officers DO scan ALL stray animals for a microchip and those with microchips make it back to their homes usually the day they are found! With no microchip and no ID tags pets are rarely reunited with their owners. Tags and collars should always be worn but can fall off while a pet in running the streets - microchips are permanent and can never be lost. We have reunited many pets with their owners soley due to the microchips. Pets are not necessarily found in the same town they were lost from - they can wander and sometimes end up pretty far away in shelters their owners would never think to check with. No matter where a pet is found, the microchip will help tremendously in getting them back home. Companion Critters, Inc. periodically holds microchip clinics for only $25 per pet (no additional registration fees). Adoption Hours
Monday through Friday: 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Saturday: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Sunday: CLOSED
Holidays: CLOSED
Adoption Process
You may come to the shelter during adoption hours to meet the pet you are interested in and to complete an adoption application. Because the paper application then needs to be taken to town hall for approval, it could take a few days until the application is approved. To speed up the process, you may submit an application online:

Once the application is received we will forward it through the appropriate approval process and you can know if the adoption is approved prior to visiting the shelter. Obtaining approval in advance does not in any way obligate you to adopt an animal but it does speed up the process should you meet an animal that is right for you.
Adoption Fees
Companion Critters, Inc. Animal Rescue and Placement has the shelter animals spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. To help offset this cost, the adoption fee by check or money order payable to Companion Critters, Inc. is $75 for cats (also FIV/FeLV tested) and $100 for dogs. Donations above and beyond the adoption fee made to Companion Critters, Inc. are always appreciated and are tax-deductible. Because the shelter is not able to accept monetary donations directly, additional donations made to Companion Critters, Inc. on behalf of the shelter animals are used to solely to purchase supplies for the shelter animals.
RESCUE GROUPS: We welcome rescue groups willing to pull animals for placement through their groups. If you have not pulled from this shelter before, please email companioncritter@cs.com indicating you wish to do so. If you pull animals that have already been spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, we ask that you reimburse Companion Critters, Inc. for the expenses they have incurred. If the animal has not yet been vetted, there is no charge as we realize that will be an expense you will be incurring.
