Barnes and Noble Gift Wrapping for Donations

December 12-24

The Sterile Feral will be gift wrapping for donations at Barnes and Noble. If you have gifts that need wrapping stop by Barnes and Noble and let TSF volunteers help you with your holiday gifting.

Mission Statement

Control of feral cat overpopulation by trapping, spaying, neutering, and re-releasing to colony caregivers with feeding stations. Social education in regards to human responsibility to reduce the number of pets that are needlessly euthanized

Who We Are

The Sterile Feral is a non-profit organization located in Northwest Georgia. We are dedicated to the health and well being of feral cat colonies and animals in need. If you are unable to adopt and would like to support an animal waiting for a home or help reduce the cat population by spay and neutering you may send a donation of love and support to The Sterile Feral, 3 Central Plaza, PMB 210, Rome, GA 30161.

Prior to Adoption

A few things to remember when deciding to enlarge the number of members in your family by including a new pet:

Get Information---Learn about your friend's needs, instincts, and natural behaviors by reading up on that species. If your pet is a crossbreed, then read up on the breeds you are aware he/she is. You might be surprised at the motivation behind some behaviors. Different breeds have different needs.

Consider---Think of your companion animals needs for exercise, companionship, and stimulation. Don't leave your friend alone for long periods of time. Set aside some time each day for interaction with your animal companion. Provide a second animal of the same species to help alleviate loneliness and boredom. If you are going to train your animals to stay off the furniture, please supply them with a bed. A foam pad will do. It will keep dogs and cats out of drafts and provide relief from arthritis and protection for joints, especially older ones.

Make sure fresh water is always available

There is no excuse for a dog or cat to be without or drinking nasty water. (Unless, of course, they want to-like from the toilet) Dirty water is a contributor to a variety of illnesses, including urinary tract infections that can be most painful and require vet care.

If possible, provide a dog or cat door (into a fenced in yard, of course)

No one expects humans to keep their legs crossed for eight to ten hours a day!
Because cats/dogs and cars don't mix, if they can go outside, be sure to add a 45-degree interior angle to the top of your fence for the dog breeds that can climb or jump over, and it will keep cats contained also.

Remember that if it would be uncomfortable for you, it is most likely to be uncomfortable for your pet. Consideration is the key to a happy life for all relationships.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption program is established to place dogs and cats in committed homes. Individuals wishing to adopt a pet must complete an adoption application followed by an interview. We retain the right to refuse adoption. All of our adult animals are altered prior to adoption. Adopters of puppies and kittens must agree to alter them at the appropriate age. We work hard to ensure that an appropriate match is made so that the relationship will be a lifetime one. Part of this program includes education regarding the proper care of the new pet.

Please complete the adoption application and email as an attachment to isyourpetfixed@yahoo.com Cat Adoption Application
or for a Dog Adoption Application email isyourpetfixed@yahoo.com to request an application or if you have any questions.

All applications must include a vet reference. Adoptions are by appointment only- an application must be submitted before an appointment can be made. To request an appointment, please email: isyourpetfixed@yahoo.com
We reserve the right to deny any application for any reason.
