Our goal is to provide you with a wonderful family member, and provide the kitty with a privileged home in which to live happily ever after. You are their one chance. We have learned that most everyone wants a baby kitten. So many older cats never get a second look. We understand the desire for a kitten - nothing is cuter or more fun. But just a few months older guarantees they will be stronger and healthier. They are all quarantined when they first come in to monitor their medical condition. Unlike most rescues, our kitties are Not caged after quarantine. Each cat in this rescue has had lots of human companionship and TLC which makes them a puurrfect candidate for a wonderful home. They are socialized with people, other cats, and most usually dogs. They each have been kissed a gazillion times - at least!

Do not read any further if you plan to declaw or let our kitty live outside. We are firm on that and hold our contracts to the letter with fees and repossession. These are two areas of which we cannot budge. There is a $5,000 fine for declawing our cats.

ABOUT KITTENS

INTRODUCING YOUR NEW PET TO ITS NEW ENVIRONMENT

Cats who live in the same house may never become the best of friends, but usually learn to at least tolerate each other with a minimum of conflict. You will need to take some time to introduce your cat to other family pets in order to prevent fearful and aggressive problems from developing.

Got his angel wings on August 7, 2008. Our hearts are broken down here, but what a celebration up there!

CORPORATE ADOPTION EVENTS

We will be looking for pet-friendly corporations that would like us to bring our kitties over for an adoption event with your staff! Please contact me if you are interested in setting it up. Every adoption means we can go get one more out of the shelter.

PET PHOTOGRAPHY

AND when you spot some really great photos of the kitties, we have been graced with a professional photographer as one of our foster moms that takes these wonderful pictures. You will certainly be able to tell her pictures from the rest of ours! Let us know if you would like to talk to Renee about photos of your baby.

We would be terribly remiss if we did not recognize Kathy Kelley and her enhancement of our petfinder site. And Stephanie Estes for the many different hats she wears in the administrative realm. It takes a lot more than foster homes to run this hobby we put our hearts and souls in. Without all these wonderful volunteers, we would be helpless.

IT DOES INDEED TAKE A VILLAGE.

News

All the news fit to print is that The Privileged Pet founder comes to Petfinder as a native Nashvillian and a veteran of a 17 year private petsitting service in Nashville, TN. My previous professional background is in management, fundraising, marketing and public relations. My love of animals and desire to leave corporate life behind has taken a natural flow into rescue. It all started in 2005 with an email and a picture of a forlorn dog. The rest is history. The cry for help for the animals is deafening.

Who We Are

The Privileged Pet rescues cats from the regional shelters that have been passed over or are going to be put to sleep. We have been blessed to have incredible foster patents, Allison, Donna, Renee, Kristie, Carolyn, Darrell, Grace and Allie, and Tara, who are looking after the new babies and preparing them to be the best pet possible. And our transporter Linda. And our newest addition - Polly - the kitties' nurse!!!

Adopting a friend

Adoption price is $100. This fee covers the FIV/Leuk testing, spay/neuter, deworming, and first distemper vaccination. If the kitten has been with us longer than 3 weeks, they will give another vax. All cats will be current with all vetting at the time you adopt. After that it is your responsibility. Rabies certificate needs to be in your name so should be ordered by you. If you kitty has any issues in the first week of ownership, please call us immediately. We have many medicines in house that would save you a visit to the vet. We work mostly with Bellevue Animal Hospital. We have several other vets around town that we can refer you to that will offer rescue rates for the time to spay and neuter. We offer up to $30 for a neuter and $50 for a spay, which is our rescue price at Bellevue. If you choose to use your own vet, we will pay you those prices towards your fees. No kitty goes to a home until it is altered, unless a kitten is adopted and then close followup for their spay/neuter. WE MUST HAVE PROOF of the spay and neuter before your kitten is six months or they will be returned to our rescue for altering and placement.

We recommend shopping for your pet supplies at The Cat Shoppe and The Dog Store (same building) - they do a lot of rescue work themselves and Chris Achord, proprietor, is one of the original big time rescuers in our community. Plus she knows Everything about the kitties and is an awesome resource. Please check out her scratching posts as my kitties think they are the best in town! They are located on Bransford across from 100 Oaks.

When you adopt one kitty from The Privileged Pet, you are in effect helping two shelter kitties. When a cat is adopted, that fee is applied immediately to one more life saved from the shelter!

Come Visit Us!

The Privileged Pet is located in West Meade, Nashville. Foster Parents are all over Nashville and the outlying areas. To adopt we do require an adoption application, as well as a finalized contract that you will provide a safe indoor home and will not declaw this kitty. When possible, your pet may be delivered to your home.
