Dog of the Month

Dog of the Month at Taunton Animal Shelter in Massachusetts

DAKOTA, The November Dog of The Month

DAKOTA is a female Am Staff, about 3 years old. She is a pretty girl who is a bundle of energy from her head to her toes. She needs an active person/family who will include her in lots of activities. We recommend breed knowledge, and she could benefit from obedience training. She learns quickly and is eager to please. Dakota needs to be the only pet in the home, and she would be too active for toddlers. A fenced yard would be ideal.

When we dressed Dakota up for her photo shoot , we all had smiles from ear to ear because she just looked so cute ! She was happy to pose for her Thanksgiving photos with one of her friends at the shelter - but was even happier to go for a nice long walk after. Dakota would love to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving in a new home with a new family to call her very own. HAPPY THANKSGIVING from DAKOTA and all her friends at the Taunton Shelter!

"Of all the things we have to be thankful for, some of the dearest are the children and animals in our lives. For there is no greater blessing than to be able to share our hearts and homes with those we love. In return, they bring us joy, they teach us to wonder anew at life, and they enrich each day through the wonderful bond we share." (Am Humane Assoc)

Cat of the Month

SOPHIA, The November Cat of The Month

My name is SOPHIA. I am a female DSH Tiger. I was abandoned, I needed a home so I stayed in a person's yard. But I guess not every house is a home, I was brought to the shelter. I am sweet, will talk for attention and have the most expressive face. I think I'm pretty and cute! Now what I would like is a home, a safe one, where I will live and grow old. Since I am an independent soul and do not like confinement, I am wanting my home to be a safe barn. A barn that I can call home and a family near by every day. Please come to meet me, I am watching and waiting for my new family.

"It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, sadness and defeat and find the true soul that lies within. We are Rescue." (Kathie Sullivan-Parkes)
"Save them one at a time, love them all, mourn for those we cannot save, and thank doG that we have been given this special gift of love for all those creatures we hold dear to our hearts" (Terry Murphy)
"Rescue dogs aren't broken, they've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don't pity a rescue dog. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness by your side."

Would you like to feel loved and appreciated? Are you unable to adopt a pet, but would like to spend time with them? Would you like to get some exercise in the great outdoors? Are you interested in the veternarian/grooming/obediance training fields? Do you love animals? Please call the shelter/come on down and ask about volunteering! The minimum age requirement is 13 years old. Everything from laundry to yard work, to walking dogs, grooming, feeding, fostering, etc... Volunteer Forms are available at the shelter or you may also request one on-line by e-mailing
