Dog of the Month

Dog of the Month at Taunton Animal Shelter in Massachusetts

SIERRA, The July Dog of The Month

SIERRA is a female Am Staff, about 2 years old. Sierra is such a pretty girl - and, she has the biggest and best "smile" ever! She seems to like everyone and is a bundle of energy from her head to her toes. Sierra would be best suited for an active family/person who would include her in lots of activities. She would make a great running/jogging/hiking companion. Sierra could benefit from obedience training, but will learn quickly and is eager to please. We recommend breed knowledge and no toddlers - as she may be too active for them. Sierra can be protective of her treats and toys - which is why we also recommend that she be the only pet in the home. When Sierra sees an open door - she is ready to run right out - therefore, a fenced yard would be ideal and one would need to be careful about doors opening with children, etc. She loves attention and being with people.

Sierra was thrilled to be posing in her 4th of July attire with one of her friends at the shelter. Sierra is wishing on a "star" that she will soon have a home and family to call her very own. How her eyes will "sparkle" as she "celebrates" on her way home... HAPPY 4th OF JULY from SIERRA and all her friends at the shelter!

"For me, a house or an apartment becomes a home when you add one set of four legs, a happy tail, and that indescribable measure of love that we call a dog." (Roger Caras)

Cat of the Month

Cat of the Month at Taunton Animal Shelter in Massachusetts

MISTY, The July Cat of The Month

My name is MISTY, and I am a female DSH/Torbie. A kind man let me into his basement to have my kittens. He understood that life outside with kittens would be very difficult for me. I could not live there forever, I was brought to the shelter to start a new chapter in my life journey. No more trying to find a safe place to sleep or food when hungry. I am hoping that soon I will have a family to care about me and a place to call home. I am waiting patiently for my new family, maybe that family is yours. Please come soon..

We would like to thank everyone for their support of the Friends of the Taunton Animal Care Facility and Taunton Shelter at our PAWS-itively PURR-fect Day at Boyden Refuge on June 22nd. Thank you to the Conservation Commission for allowing us to hold our event there once again. Everyone is always so impressed with the Refuge and many of the dogs who attended enjoyed walking the trails with their owners . Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who gladly gave towards one of our best raffles ever! Thank you to all the people who attended. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we had a great turnout. Many dogs previously adopted from the Taunton Shelter, came to say "Hi" and give many of the volunteers special "tail wags" and "doggies kisses" ! Some of them even had a chance to enjoy a doggie massage while there! It was a fun and successful day. Thanks to all the volunteers who gladly helped out at the event. Volunteers are a special part of our organization and the shelter. As always, we are thankful for the love people have for their pets and for caring about the many pets at our shelter who are still waiting for their new homes and families. "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." (Anatol France)

"It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, sadness and defeat and find the true soul that lies within. We are Rescue." (Kathie Sullivan-Parkes)
"Save them one at a time, love them all, mourn for those we cannot save, and thank doG that we have been given this special gift of love for all those creatures we hold dear to our hearts" (Terry Murphy)
"Rescue dogs aren't broken, they've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don't pity a rescue dog. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness by your side."

Would you like to feel loved and appreciated? Are you unable to adopt a pet, but would like to spend time with them? Would you like to get some exercise in the great outdoors? Are you interested in the veternarian/grooming/obediance training fields? Do you love animals? Please call the shelter/come on down and ask about volunteering! The minimum age requirement is 13 years old. Everything from laundry to yard work, to walking dogs, grooming, feeding, fostering, etc...
