The HSSC was started in April of 2001. We are a non-profit organization that's operated by volunteers. We do not have an animal shelter. Our pets stay in foster homes until permanent homes can be found. Our Board of Directors consists of the following: Jackie Johnson, Tyson Cluever, Sara Piotter, Amanda Grussing, Sherry Jones, and Wendy Munsterman. Wendy Munsterman is chair of the Board. Officers are: President- Jackie Johnson, Secretary-Tyson Cluever, Vice President- Sara Piotter, Treasurer-Wendy Munsterman. MEMBERSHIPS are $25 yearly (March 1 to February 28). Junior memberships (up to age 18) are available for $5.00. Corporate memberships are available for $100 and our corporate members are acknowledged in all H.S. events. - Please call the foster home's number listed to arrange for a visit. All pets will be spayed/neutered before going to their new home, depending on age/size. Dogs are generally $125 and up and have been heartworm tested, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered. Puppies are $60 and up (1st vacc. and de-worming) if too young to spay/neuter. Spay/neuter must be done at 6 months of age. If puppies are altered, they will be adopted at close to the adult adoption fee. Cats are $50 and have been FeLv tested, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered. Kittens are $35 (1st vaccination and de-worming), if too young to spay/neuter, it must be done at 6 months of age.
Benson is located about three hours west of the twin cities on Hwy 12. We are 30 miles west of Willmar on Hwy 12, and about 50 miles south of Alexandria on Hwy 29. Please call to arrange for a visit. The Waggin' Tails Dog Park is located at 22nd St and Highway 12 in Benson. Admission is free to all, but a donation box is available at the park door.
