ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS
We do require that all applicants complete an application. We will contact you if you have been approved. We have hundreds of applications to review, we apologize for not being able to contact each person individually. We try to send an email letting you know that we received your information, but then we will not contact you again unless we have questions or you have been approved. We do apologize. Since our animals have already been through so much we want to make sure we pick the best home for them. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Email us if you would like us to send you an application.
Please understand we do require an adoption agreement be signed at the time of adoption stating you will take proper care of this animal and provide all things needed for him/her to live a healthy and safe life. We do not guarantee the temperament or health of these animals. We can not guarantee breed or size. We do require the pet be altered within 30 days of adoption, if not already done. Adopting an animal is a commitment for years, not weeks or month. We will have a 3 day refund policy. You will get 50% of your adoption fee back if the pet is returned within the 3 days. After three days no refund will be given. Each case will be reviewed seperately.
Please understand.... We receive hundreds of emails and it takes time to review them and contact references. If you do not get an immediate response please take in consideration how much rescuers do each and every day. We drive for hours to get to a pound to save a pup/dog before they are put down. We vet, feed and care for these animals 24/7. So please give us the benefit of the doubt and drop us a "Nice" follow up email.
Thank you again for your interest in a shelter dog/puppy.
ADOPTING A FRIEND
Adopting a dog or puppy can be an exciting time, but please take in consideration the true responsibility of this action. You will be required to provide this animal with everything to guarantee good health, happiness and safety. Yearly vaccines and monthly heartworm prevention as well as flea/tick control. Please don't purchase a pet for a gift, such as Christmas or Easter. An animal is a lifetime commitment. You must also make sure the new pet has enough exercise and can go outside safely. We do not believe animals should be put on chain, not only can the animal get loose, but other animals can get to it.
We do require an adoption fee. This fee is 100% dedicated to providing medical care and maintenance for all the pets in our rescue.
OUR FEATURED PET..
11/9/09 This little guy needs a home as soon as possible. He is not at our rescue. This is a courtesy posting. This dog was dumped along side of the road and a gentlemen saved him. But he is physically not able to take care of this baby any longer. He is super sweet and would make someone a great pet.
He is not neutered but is current on all shots. We will require an adoption agreement stating he will be neutered within 15 days of adoption be signed. Please contact us if you are interested in making him part of your family. ****RESCUES ARE WELCOME TO CONTACT US AS WELL. **
LOST AND FOUND PET
Our shelter has been given the great honor to be a state ambassador for the Lost and Pound website. If you are or you know someone who has lost a pet or have found a stray, go to www.lostandpound.com. It allows pet owners to post pictures and descriptions of their lost pets including the location where they were last seen. Upon entering this information, a LOST PET ALERT is sent immediately via email to a combination of participating veterinarians, animal shelters, police stations, media outlets, pet service companies and neighborhood watch volunteers within a 45 mile radius of where your pet was last seen. All this is at no cost to you. This is a great resource for us all. Please share this website information with all your friends for future reference.

WHY YOU ARE HERE
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter.....
The cast-offs of Human Society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God", I said, "This is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and said softly,
"I have done something, I created YOU..."
WHO WE ARE
We are a home based, not for profit rescue dedicated to saving as many homeless, neglected and abused dogs as possible. We work with local kill pounds and certain rescues to ease the burden of over population and caring for the sick or injured. After volunteering at a local rescue, we could no longer stand by and wait for someone else to step up and help those in need. To see the faces of all those scared and homeless dogs that don't understand why their family would just leave them alone with no bed to sleep in and no one to love them when they are scared. It truly is heartbreaking. We believe every dog should be able to live inside the home with their family and not tied in the yard or to a dog house. Adopting a dog is the same as adding a new family member.
Please take care of your animals, if you find yourself in the situation where you can no longer care for your dog please do not dump them along side the road or tied to a tree somewhere. And never give away your animal. Do you know that research labs will pick up the FREE animals for research purposes? That is no place for a family pet, or any pet to end up at.
We do have dogs that will never be able to leave the rescue, our home, due to health issues or age. We will provide these dogs with all the hugs and kisses they can stand. If you would like to sponsor one of these dogs please contact us. Sponsoring a dog could mean all the difference in the world.
Thank you for considering a shelter pet, THEY will love you for it!!!!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
If you would like to help the animals at Stepping Stone Rescue, please send any monetary donations to: Woodman Drive Animal Hospital 5015 Rainier Drive Dayton, OH 45432. Your generous donations would help provide emergency medical care for our pets. We realize times are very tight, but any amount would really be appreciated. We currently have a bill of $1400, for the treatment of Patti, a shar pei that lost her fight with cancer and 8 parvo pups that had to be treated. So please help us if you can. We are not 501. We run our rescue strictly by working and do the best we can. We do not receive any food or other donations. Thank you so much for anything you can do. Make sure to write: "Stepping Stone Rescue" on the bottom of your check.
A BIT OF HUMOR!
The family's dog was bought to guard, Chained to a post in a chilly backyard. House in a shed that was airless and dark. And every few weeks had a run in the park.
When boredom set in with no fun and no work, One day it broke loose and went quietly berserk. Paw couldn't fathom just why it went wild, As it flattened his wife and the bit his child.
The police were called in to sort out the mess, And the whole sorry tale was revealed in the press, The Rescue Society was really annoyed,
So, the dog was re-homed and the owners destroyed...
