We currently have no money in our account to pay expenses. We are selling Avon products through our website stephaniesanimalrescue.com and continuing a bottle and can drive. We are no longer accepting cat. Stephanie is only accepting dogs on a case by case basis with preference to young and adult small breeds. No surrender fee for young puppies, $25 surrender fee for less adoptable adult dogs.
The NYS spay/neuter vouchers have been suspended since Governor Patterson pulled $1million from the fund.
Please consider a tax deductible donation or a gift membership to our shelter and rescue as we always need money to keep going. Friends of Stephanie's Animal Shelter memberships are just $10 per year. No one has to strain their budget to help us. If everyone who browsed our listings gave us one or two dollars, we just might have enough to spay/neuter more animals.
Dog food, and cleaning supplies are always needed. Our electric bill is high because our washer and dryer are running constantly for animal blankets, towels and cleaning rags. Advertising for those who don't have computers is expensive. Stephanie's time at the shelter is now limited because the had to get a job to pay household expenses because of the current economy . Donations only trickle in now and one sick or injured animal can cost hundreds of dollars. One rabies shot is $13 and vaccinations are $3-5 each. Our veterinary services are very reasonable, but not free. They have to earn a living too.

MEMBERSHIPS.. As part of our goal to become a humane animal rescue society, we are now offering membership in Stephanie's Animal Shelter and Rescue, Inc. A donation of $10 or more provides the donor with a one year membership and email updates of our shelter activities and needs.
DOGS AND PUPPIES We currently no dogs available for adoption. 1/24/10 We welcome litters of puppies because they are in demand and the adoption fees help us meet the expenses of taking care of the cats and less adoptable older dogs. Anyone who surrenders a litter of puppies (4 or more) can have their mother dog spayed free. Please give us a call if we can help you find homes for your puppies or dog. The surrender of dogs and puppies is done by appointment. A donation is requested for the surrender of an adult dog. No surrender fee for puppies under 4 months. Please call to see if we have room (585) 493-2309 before bringing your dog in.
PUPPY ADOPTIONS Because our puppies come from various backgrounds such as high kill pounds and homes where the parents are not properly vaccinated, we cannot guarantee their health. We vaccinate them and worm them and take any obviously sick pups to our vet for evaluation. If they are with us more than 14 days, they receive a second vaccination and worming.
Stephanie's Animal Shelter began as a private shelter and rescue home located in Gainesville, NY. The home-based shelter accepts most animals, cats, dogs or potbelly pigs right on up too goats, horses and so much more. The cost to make this happen is supported by donations, adoption fees and money from our own household budgets. Despite the financial difficulties, we couldn’t and won't give up on the animals.
In 2003, we became a non-profit corporation. Doing this helped differentiate our organization from a pet dealership. In July of 2004 we received notification of our 501 c(3) tax exempt status. As we evolved, our primary focus has centered around the rescue of dogs. The older and more sickly are time consuming, more expensive and require so much more time and expenses. As a puppy the work seems just as intense but more rewarding to know they have so many more years ahead of them. We do accept cats and farm animals as well but please, if you have a pregnant cat or a litter of kittens, make your best effort to find a good home for them first. It is becoming more difficult bye the day to place and or feed all of these precious felines.
Adoption fees for these animals partly support our day to day shelter needs. In addition to food and the shelter, all puppies are vaccinated and wormed two to three times while in our care. Puppies over 4 months of age get rabies shot and are licensed. Cats and kittens are also given vaccinations and are wormed. Sick or injured animals are taken to the vet and treated professionally. As funds become available our goal is to neuter and spayed all of our animals. Adoption contracts require spaying or neutering within 6 months of adoption.
Stephanie Smith is the lady that makes it happen. She oversees the day to day activities of the shelter. Besides the hands on caring and feeding, fielding phone calls etc. she also coordinates any fund raisers to help keep the shelter a float. The hardest part of the job for Stephanie or anyone in this field is patience. Sometimes patience can be hard to find when dealing with abusive or neglectful pet owners. Pet owners who acquire a pet without thinking about the care it requires. Seeing the fear and sadness in the eyes of an animal when a beloved pet owner leaves them behind is touching. This added to many nights spent nursing sick animals back to health is difficult--animals that clearly lacked proper feedings and vaccinations prior to their arrival
In some cases countless hours and dollars are spent and still the animal can not be saved. Unfortunately there is never enough time or money to save them all. That is why we need your help! Join us and help us save more animals. With your membership donations and volunteer help we can make a difference together. Help walk or groom, socialize with the dogs and cats. You too will see in their eyes how much a kind voice and a friendly scratching or cuddle means to them.
