S.T.A.R. Finds homes for the stray, lost and/or abandoned dogs in our area.
Here, each dog receives needed Veterinary care, including all necessary vaccinations. When space is available, the dog goes into a foster home. There, they learn proper house manners...and are often in need of simple, basic socialization, with people and other animals.
The cost of the feeding, care and general mantainence of S.T.A.R.'s Orphans is substancial and is paid, mostly, "out of pocket" by our volunteers.
Southern Tier Animal Rescue DOES NOT accept "home owned" dogs into foster care. We have too few foster homes and too many "throw away" dogs that have no home at all! Our limited resources, also, force us to keep our focus on the most needy dogs that have no one else to care for(or about) them
Here, at S.T.A.R. we have Orphans that need homes!!
If you have been looking for "just the right dog"...PLEASE, VISIT OUR ORPHANS....he/she may be HERE, waiting for you to find them!!!

S.T.A.R. would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Bruce Kaplan DVM, for all of the time and caring he devotes to our Orphans.Without him, we could not have saved so many.

I look at all the caged animals...the cast-offs
of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread,
sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God",I said,This is terrible! Why don't you do something?
God was silent for a moment, then He spoke softly.
I have done something,He replied. " I created you"
"Rescue Prayer"
Now I lay me down to rest,
I pray my soul can stand this test
Of watching critters lose their homes,
While owners gripe and cry and moan.
I long for strength of spirit and
I pray they'll find a home again.
Where they will know a loving heart
I can't do much, but its a start..
And spare me from the owner's pleas
About the baby's allergies,
Or how they're moving out of state
Or spitefulness 'tween cat and mate.
Please keep me sane while dealing with,
The woman who bought as a gift
A wriggling tiny ball of fluff
That now is playing way too rough.
Remind me I should bite my lip
When confronted with "he grew too quick".
"I didn't know he'd get so large",
"He seems to think that he's in charge".
Protect my heart when I hear them say,
"I think we'll breed our dog one day".
Sometimes I think it'll break in two;
Each day brings trials harsh and new.
And if I die before I wake
I pray one hopeless soul you'll take.
My tears are gone, my faith is bare
Lord, please hear my rescue prayer.
