Natasha

Natasha is an amazing dog!! She is very smart, housetrained, small (35 pounds & full grown) you can see in the 2nd photo that she is not much larger than her small friend Suzie FooFoo!, and she very rarely barks. She looks like a miniature german shepard but is very very gentil. She is very shy when you first meet her and she is afraid of men. We are working with her on her fears and we are sure that she will make a wonderful pet for the right family. She LOVES to play and gets along with other dogs and cats.

We interviewed her to see what she thinks about getting a family of her own::

“I would sure love to have a forever family! Before I got to the shelter I was treated really badly by a man and so I am pretty shy right now. I am working really really hard with my foster mom and dad to overcome this shyness. I have gotten over a lot of my shyness with my foster mom, I even sleep with her! But I am still tenative with my foster dad. I have been with them for a little less than a week so I think I am doing really good. I love to run around the yard and to play with the other dogs that they have here.”

We interviewed Natasha's foster mom and here is what she had to say:

"Natasha is soooo wonderful! The family that adopts her is going to be so lucky! I would keep her in an instant if I did not already have 4 dogs. I love fostering her! She lays on the bed with me and watches TV, she follows me around to see if she can help with anything I am doing. She is shy of my husband but is getting better. She gets my other lazy dogs to play which is fun to watch. I have never heard her bark or seen her be agressive in any way. Even when she is afraid of someone she does not display any type of agression, she just trys to avoid them. My husband and I are working with her to get her used to men and we believe it is just a matter of time. Even with her shyness she is a JOY to have around."

HENRY

Henry is a very sweet, gentle, loving dog. He is a WONDERFUL dog, He is about 1 ½ years old and has been at the shelter since he was 6 weeks old. He was rescued along with his mother and siblings from the side of the road, they have all been adopted but Henry and his sister Scarlet.

We interviewed him to see why he thinks that he has not been adpoted yet:

“I am not sure why I have not been adopted yet, I know I am a really good dog. When people come to my cage to look at me I bring them my toy to show them that I like to play! It could be that I am not house broken yet but when I get a home and family I will work really hard to learn about that so it should not take very long. I LOVE to go for walks and to be with other dogs. I am a little worried about telling you this but, I am also a black dog and I am not sure if everyone knows or not but black dogs have a hard time getting adopted. There are some really good parts about having a black dog, like the fact that black dogs make you look slimer, we don't need halloween costumes and you can find us in the snow! Everyone at the shelter is so nice but I wish so badly that I could have a home and family of my own. I know I can make my family happy and they would sure make me happy. Sometimes at night I dream of having my own bed or sharing a bed with one of my family members in my very own home!”

We interviewed Joanie, who volunteers here at the shelter and often takes Henry for a walk and here is what she had to say:

"Henry is just a big soft sweet playful galoot. He loves to walk with me and he gets his toy and throws it in the air to make sure that I know he wants to play. I feel bad for him because he has been here so long and the kennels are very nice but are only 3' by 5' indoors and 3' by 7 feet outside so for a big dog it is not much room. We all love him and will cry when he leaves but they will be tears of joy knowing he will be getting a family of his own."

Who We Are

WE'RE VOLUNTEERS HELPING ANIMALS!!!

STAFF was built originally to house our Thrift shop and for our animals that are up for adoption. Our Thrift store is the main monetary base for the animals we rescue and for our ongoing spay/neuter financial assistance program that benefits our area animals. Our volunteers and staff are few but mighty. Those interested in helping should come to our building on Hwy 5 just south of the Morgan/Camden county line or call us at 573-374-2629. Memberships in STAFF are available. S.T.A.F.F. is a Missouri licensed animal rescue group dedicated to enhancing the life of our area animals. We support an ongoing spay/nueter program with financial aid available on a need basis. We are located just inside the northern edge of Sunrise Beach, MO. on Hwy 5.

Our adoption fee is $50 - $300 for dogs, and $40 for cats. The higher adoption fee on the young, purebred dogs helps offset the expenses on the large and small mixed breed dogs that wait longer for an adopter. While our personal belief is that all dogs should be treated equally, we must face reality. Given a choice, mutt over purebred, same smaller adoption fee, the mutts will generally be left behind.

You will receive a healthy friendly pet. All our animals have been treated for fleas/ticks, been wormed, received vaccination and rabies shots and have been sterilized unless too young. For the young ones, we require sterilization and we cover the cost.

As you can tell, the adoption fee does not cover all the expenses we have on the animal. STAFF pays the remainder of the costs by operating a thrift shop.

Come Visit Us!

STAFF is located just south of Laurie, MO. on the east side of Hwy 5. We are 1 and 1/2 miles south of the Route O intersection (main stoplight in Laurie). This is just south of the Camden/Morgan county line and at the northern edge of Sunrise Beach, MO.
